Show me your glasses?

I'm in desperate need of a new pair of glasses as mine are stuck together with cellotape. I've no idea what glasses are fashionable!

Most friends and stylish women I see out and about wear black framed glasses but when I tried them on they don't suit me. I usually wear rose gold frames but they're looking dated now.

I'm late 40's, mid brown reddish toned longish hair and a round face.

I found specsavers to be pretty good OP, after years of buying online. I have one brown plastic pair (not dissimilar to QueenPawPaws though slightly rounder) and a dark navy metal framed Karen Millen pair, also more round. I was going to say that I basically try on every pair in the shop (and I wear lenses most of the time, god knows how picky I’d be if I wore glasses all the time!) and narrow it down .... but I assume covid may have put a stop to that? Maybe a virtual try on facility?? I think I’ve seen specsavers offering this in the past pre covid?
There are also loads of lovely independent brands like Cubitts, but equally the trying on may be a problem. I’ve had several nice pairs from glasses direct who post out to you for free to try on. Only 4 pairs at a time but means you can try out a few different styles and shapes.

I should say I always use boots because they have an assistant who is a witch. I always gravitate towards smaller frames, she comes over, grabs a pair and says "these" and she is right every single time ConfusedGrin
The ones in the pic are what she picked for me and suit me much better than my last pair!

GreekOddess · 28/12/2020 21:14

They're nice too Hilary. Need to get myself down to Boots.

I’ve currently got tortoiseshell raybans
It’s a really big change for me after wearing rimless for 25+ years

1frenchfoodie · 28/12/2020 22:12

I have Bobbi Brown tortoisehell (ish - darker, more plum tones than ones above) in a slightly chunkier style than those above.

Nacreous · 28/12/2020 22:17

Brown tortoiseshell has been my go to for the last few years, but I switched and am wearing a jazzy pair of Wolf frames which are black on the front but slightly translucent and multicoloured inside.

Some of my very trendy friends are wearing wire framed spectacles now but you've got to really know you can pull that off or it can go wrong.

I have a lighter brown pair similar to above.

It really depends whether you want them to be a statement or accent. For a round face you want the rounder styles. They are quite popular now. Defo try the virtual try on, its amazing.

I bought the wrong pair I feel, my dream pair are graduated with darker brown along the eyebrow line and blending into a rose colour.

^ones I would like

User9574 · 29/12/2020 02:14

I would love metal, love PPs above, but my prescription is minus 10, though they have got better at slimming the lenses, I live in hope!

GrimDamnFanjo · 29/12/2020 02:21

@User9574 try an indie. I have the worlds thinnest lenses and am no longer restricted with my frames.
