Highlighting hair

Looking for any advice or tips on highlighting own hair. For the past few years I've been highlighting my own using a Jerome Russell kit and I love the results but as my hair has got longer it's become SO painful pulling my hair through the cap and I think I need to look for a new method! Does anyone highlight their own hair in a different way, foils for example? I started a hairdressing course a while back and learnt foils but think they could be hard to do on myself. Or any advice on how to make a cap less painful?

TIA!

I use that kit. I used to randomly pick little bits out, but now I part my hair in different sections parallel from my own centre parting downwards. I then pick little sections from each parting - rather like when a hairdresser uses a pointy comb to pick out sections.
I use the 30% vol, and I put the bleach on more thickly at the bottom of each tiny section and then feather it up avoiding the roots totally, so I don’t have to worry about hot roots.
Looks really good even if I do say so myself!
Loads of videos on YouTube.

Thanks for replying! Do you mean like it's darker at the top and gets blonder towards the end of the hair?
