Project 333 1st January 2021

GranolaHolmes · 23/12/2020 23:23

Anybody else doing Project 333 and want a thread for this?

I'm still reading but plan to start on 1st January so starting to plan my first 33.

My understanding is that it's a minimalist wardrobe challenge.

Select 33 items of clothing to make a capsular wardrobe including shoes, accessories, jewellery, outerwear and wear only these for 3 months.

No shopping.

Sportswear, loungewear, sleepwear and underwear doesn't count towards the 33. I'm excluding work uniform also but whatever works.

Anybody else?

I did this in October, due to update in mid-Jan. I also turn my hangers around in the wardrobe so I will be able to see what items I haven't touched in the 3 months. I removed around 60 articles of clothing and that including cardigans and party dresses (which I couldn't be bothered to do anything with since I won't be using the latter at all). It will be interesting to see how many things I actually wore.

GranolaHolmes · 24/12/2020 15:09

Definitely post a review of what did and didn't get worn.

Any tips for a newbie?

Ooo dunno, I am quite a newbie myself! I guess read up about it on the Project 333 website and my advice would be to not get too hung up on it having to be 33 exactly. I also tweaked it and didn't include accessories as I don't often wear jewellery anyway and it would have been a faff to remove most things from where they are stored and find somewhere else to store them. I may do different tweaks in January when I relook at my 'keep out' list. But overall I like my wardrobe and drawers being less cluttered.

GranolaHolmes · 24/12/2020 21:14

I feel the same about the jewellery. I don't have much of it anyway following massive declutter.

Disorganisedfish · 25/12/2020 22:48

Ooh I wanted to try this previously - I’m going to go read up on it again now, but I’m hesitantly in as I want to start wearing clothes other than pjs even if I am just in the house!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 25/12/2020 22:52

We had an autumn thread, personally found it really useful and I cleared out a lot. Its made getting up and dressed these days of low motivation much easier!

I thought I would be reassesing in November but its been really mild untill the last few weeks.

moimichme · 26/12/2020 12:14

I'm in! Never done it before but I really like the idea of less hassle trying to figure out what to wear in the morning. I've done a massive clothing declutter already (though it's still temporarily in the house...) but still have more than I need. Will try and think about what should be on my list.

GranolaHolmes · 26/12/2020 15:37

We are packing to move house so I'm going to pick out my 33 (ish 🤔) and put everything into storage ahead of the move. I'm still making my way through the audiobook but think it seems self explanatory really.

Unlikely to need anything for going out-out in the next 3 months but will make sure I've got something in the spirit of optimism.

GranolaHolmes · 28/12/2020 18:07

Good work, I do love a good nose in other peoples wardrobes.
Will post mine soon.

OP posts:
LivingDeadGirlUK · 28/12/2020 20:30

Today I've done blue wide leg jeans with the purple ribbed top, I've a Uniqlo thermal under it. These jeans are nice but don't have belt loops which is a shame as would look great with a belt too.

LlamaofDrama · 29/12/2020 08:49

I don't think I could manage to find as many as 33 with those exclusions! I may have accidentally capsuled my wardrobe already. I'm off to count now...

LivingDeadGirlUK · 29/12/2020 11:36

@GranolaHolmes

Thank you. Omg Stylebook!
I've been trying to find an android alternative and currently giving Pureple a go and it seems ok.

@LlamaofDrama I would struggle too if I didn't wear completely different clothes for work to at home. With the whole covid situation and working from home I've actually got a huge amount of 'workwear' that I could do with selling but I imagine its not going very well at the moment! At the moment I probably only need one 'work' outfit a week.

Today I'm in gym gear as I'm planning to a) not leave the house, b) do some yoga, and c) we are doing some major decluttering so I'm just going to be pottering about the house. I DO have too much gym gear, a whole draw that I barely wear a lot of...

For those that don't know much about Project 333.

It was started by Courtney Carver.

What do we think the odds are of needing a going out outfit in the next 3 months are? Slim to none?

OP posts:
LivingDeadGirlUK · 29/12/2020 17:35

@GranolaHolmes

What do we think the odds are of needing a going out outfit in the next 3 months are? Slim to none?
Ok so my take on this is that while I do agree that most people can benefit from decluttering and reducing their 'stuff', one of the advantages to being settled and in your 30's is that I pretty much own everything I need to all eventualities. So while I selected my 33 bits for work and time off work, I still had in my wardrobe things like my suit, a party dress, walking coat/trousers, things that I might need in an unplanned situation. Everything else I vac packed and put away (if I wasn't going to get rid of it).

I'll never be a minimalist!

GranolaHolmes · 29/12/2020 17:41

As I'm sending everything else off into storage while we move I may keep one going out outfit in there out of optimism and aim for 33ish for my first go.

I refuse to include my waterproof kit and walking boots within the capsule despite using them regularly at the moment. They are functional kit/sportswear in my mind.

I am narrowing it down though so am pretty close to my chosen wardrobe.

OP posts:
moimichme · 30/12/2020 11:19

With the good news today, and given that you're packing things up so it'd be hard to change your mind, I'd say it's a good idea to keep one nice outfit in your 33, GranolaHolmes.

Wearing a warm jumper dress today. Brrr!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 30/12/2020 11:56

its Denim skirt with black lace sleeve sweater and grey tights today. I will wear my ugg boots when I go to the shop.

GranolaHolmes · 30/12/2020 16:36

I'm on 40 items and thinking that will do for my first effort.

Finished the project 333 audiobook today and giving myself permission to go with 40 items.

I had way too much fun using the Stylebook app.

OP posts:
LivingDeadGirlUK · 31/12/2020 12:17

Blue wide leg jeans, purple ribbed long sleeve and then we went out for a snowy walk so my purple walking jacket which is on the list and my walking boots which are not.

GranolaHolmes · 31/12/2020 15:37

Ok so here's my 40 ish items wardrobe...
1 Cami top
3 long sleeve tops
2 cardigans
4 jumpers
4 shirts
1 blazer
2 dungarees
5 trousers
1 jumpsuit
4 dresses
2 pairs of flat boots
1 pair of trainers
2 bags
2 hats
2 scarves
2 coats
1 raincoat

I haven't included sportswear, waterproofs, leggings, jewellery, underwear.

It's all beautifully colour coordinated, comfortable, it fits and is all the things i love.

Have literally nowhere to go dressed so nice but whatever.
