What a tragedy-4 children and only aged 50 😢
As a teenager in the 90s I never missed a copy of Vogue and she was always one of the big stars during that era

An awful time for her family

@DaysAreGettingLongerNow oh my goodness the tartan shoot! Yes I really remember that
She rocked short hair so well and just looked incredible all of the time
Never a good time to lose someone suddenly but just before Christmas is heartbreaking

Very sad indeed - though I have never heard of her :-).

ApocalypseNow · 24/12/2020 01:01

What a shame Sad They had some of her magazine covers and campaigns displayed when I visited Chatsworth House a few years ago.

I know Deborah Mitford was her grandmother. What tragic news, RIP 💐

Remembering about the tartan shoot has made me want to go out and buy a copy of Vogue. What a sad, sad loss.

thetrees · 24/12/2020 07:35

So sad. I met her once for work and she was the most beautiful, poised and elegant person I have ever met. I can actually remember exactly what she said because she spoke so precisely, by which I don't mean that she was curt , just that's he was very clear.

We were both in our early thirties at the time.

So very sad.

CodenameVillanelle · 24/12/2020 07:37

@Taikoo

Very sad. But you'll get your arse served to you on here for mentioning anyone famous who has only recently passed on. MN is a weird place.
Where?
Atalune · 24/12/2020 07:41

Goodness. What a terrible tragedy.

Blondiney · 24/12/2020 09:42

She was such a fashion staple in the 90s, very much my era. Shocked that to learn that she died and shocked that she was 50, how the hell did that happen?

PoulePouletteEternellement · 24/12/2020 10:37

Tough year.

The news outlets suggest even hers was not free of some of the strains so many of us have experienced lately.

It's an awful shame she's gone.

CleverCatty · 24/12/2020 10:45

very sad news - I recall her a bit during the 90's - she wasn't especially on my radar apart from in Vogue etc!

I think I saw her a few times in Knightsbridge/King's Road actually... she was a really stunning androgynous looking woman.

TornadoOfSouls · 24/12/2020 11:19

So sad. She was my favourite model of all the big names and I remember how exciting it was when she first appeared on the scene with her septum piercing, which seemed so rebellious at the time. Her poor children.

PoulePouletteEternellement · 07/01/2021 09:36

Several newspapers seem to be indicating that she took her own life.

I can think of no one whose life has been portrayed as more idyllic.

Can't find the words ...

Our mind is the one place we can't escape from. Until death.

Chambored · 07/01/2021 14:24

I’ve just seen that.
How terribly terribly sad. Both for Stella and her family.

A source quoted by the Telegraph said the family wanted to make the news public because “they feel it’s important to raise awareness around mental health, as far too often it is misunderstood.”

She was clearly struggling. I respect the family for making the news public to highlight and raise awareness of MH issues at what is obviously a horrific time for them.

SirVixofVixHall · 07/01/2021 14:36

Yes, terribly sad for her and her family. Her poor children in particular.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 07/01/2021 19:05

So sad for her children. I did wonder if it was by her own hand due to the sudden nature of it.

peaceanddove · 08/01/2021 16:57

Absolutely heartbreaking. I am no expert, but I do know the most common age for women to commit suicide is in their early 50s. Menopause experts believe it is linked to the menopause and lowering levels of estrogen, which can cause dreadful depression that can't be treated successfully with ADs. What the sufferer desperately needs is estrogen, but so few GPs are knowledgeable about the menopause and hormones.

I also personally believe this is why Kate Spade also commited suicide. It doesn't matter how idyllic your life is because the chemical/hormonal imbalance is inside your own head.

EachandEveryone · 08/01/2021 17:01

Its just awful i wonder if turning fifty and xmas in the same week also contributed in some way. She was very private I dont know if there was a history there or if it was due to the menopause on top of everything else.

I don't know? But typically the sufferer will have a history of severe PMS, and most likely PND. Then when menopause causes havoc with your hormones it can be very dangerous.
