Is this an age thing?

Always had good skin overall. Fairly clear, only hormonal spots and not every month, no real problems with it. I'm 38 and since lockdown it has gone to pot. My biggest gripe is that all of a sudden my face is covered in that downy hair. Very blonde so not noticeable to anyone except me. But why is this? Some are getting long so I need to pluck them. How do I get rid? Is it an age thing? 😭

@LegoCardSwapper

Could be. Ask you doctor for eflora cream I think the generic is eflornithine.
Works a treat.

could be a few things. Excessive dieting, hormonal imbalance, side-effect of some medications, PCOS, to name but a few...might also just be you're a hairy mofo. I'm a hairy Mary, too, and it's blonde, so not so noticable, but if I leave it I have a proper golden moustache, sideburns, and chin hair. I used to shave it off, every day, but now I have one of those 'flawless' face hair removing wands... cost me 20 quid, quick whizz in the morning, before moisturising, sorted. I even have a spare, for backup, just in case I lose my daily. lol.

Thanks @Justa47 my GP is not sympathetic to things like this but I will try and book a video appt.

And @yaboo what is this magic face hair wand you speak of? PCOS is unlikely unless you can suddenly develop that? Not hairy elsewhere - I can honestly go weeks before shaving my legs, I'm carrying a few extra pounds but nothing that can't be put down to excessive snacking during lockdown. No dieting (shocker), no medication. And I've honestly never had it before. It's developed very recently. And quickly! 😩

You’re 38
Not 78!!!

No OP, this is not an “age thing”!

@LegoCardSwapper

You can buy on the internet too.
Tell GP about the distress and they have to act.

I think this is what @yaboo is talking about. Can also recommend

Was looking at that on an advert earlier and wondered if it worked!

My skin has been the same. I started off on a lymecycline prescription but didn't want to stay on antibiotics.
Now have a dermatica prescription (Tret, niamicide and azaelic), take flax oil and have had to identify things that caused breakouts. (For me salicylic acid, anything silicone based and toothpaste with sls).

Please don’t bother your GP with this. As if they don’t have enough on at the moment Hmm
