A warm, very comfortable coat for long fast pace walks?

sameday2021 · 21/12/2020 21:17

Can anyone recommend a coat that will see me through the next few months of cold weather as I intend to go on long fast paced walks daily. Must be really comfy, not bulky, lightweight, breathable and bum/upper thigh covering as I'll be wearing with sports leggings.

Any thoughts appreciated!

You’ll get too hot in down. I like Regatta coats. They do come a bit longer and you can get a fleece underneath. Other layers too. Berghaus are good but I’m not sure if they do longer jackets. They usually are shorter. Barbour do all sorts of coats. You would find something suitable from them.

My first thought was Seasalt plant hunter - or maybe Janelle.

Dinnertime22 · 22/12/2020 07:41

I got a lovely warm one from Hobbs. Worth checking the sales.

PresentingPercy · 22/12/2020 07:53

Yes seasalt coats also work. I think their sake has started?

craghoppers
They do a nice range of different weight jackets. I’m living in the one I bought a few years ago, walking every day.

This M&S one works well for me:

Seasalt Janelle works well for me

I love my superdry Everest parker. Fits all those criteria and I wear it everyday.

CountessFrog · 22/12/2020 09:04

I do fast paced walking and I’d melt in a plant Hunter coat.

I wear two layers underneath a waterproof north face jacket.

Grobagsforever · 22/12/2020 09:05

I recently gave in and bought a sea salt Janelle. It's perfect for what you describe

grey12 · 22/12/2020 09:36

Just bought one from Superdry. Very good loads of pockets!

LightOfAThousandStars · 22/12/2020 10:08

Tog24 or Regatta do very good ones, down might be too warm if walking a lot

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/12/2020 10:35

Sea salt Janelle is so lightweight for the warmth it gives, I could do a fast paced walk in mine.

reefedsail · 22/12/2020 10:39

I find my Janelle does a good combination of being warm, but not boiling me to death if I'm moving. Not sure how it does that, but I would recommend.

Broadbeanssleepinginheavenlype · 22/12/2020 10:43

Janelle for sure

Coconut80 · 22/12/2020 11:43

I have a great didriksons coat that is cosy and waterproof but not too hot for hill walking x

LooseMooseHoose · 22/12/2020 12:10

For fast paced walks I prefer a gilet to a proper coat. Keeps my body warm but gives me proper movement in my arms and doesn't get as stuffy in my armpits. I like the Noble Outfitters ones because they come down over my hips, but they don't sell in the UK anymore unfortunately

I second Didriksons, they are high quality coats and you can pick one up in the sale for the price of the Seasalt coat. I recently bought one from AlpineTrek for £130 reduced from £270.
DeadCertain · 22/12/2020 17:34

Rab jackets are the business for me!

Sallyrush · 07/01/2021 21:01

If definitely recommend mountain warehouse. I’ve got a lovely 3/4 length down coat which is waterproof but lightweight. The zip opens at both ends so great for walks as frees up room to move!!! Check out the kids wear too. I was very surprised at their range. Good value but also quite trendy! X

sunsetandcocktails · 07/01/2021 21:27

I second Didriksons! I have this one and love it... warm without being sweltering, breathable and washable too. I do a lot of fast walking and have lived in it this year!

Although just noticed it says sold out so this might not be that helpful!

Imissmoominmama · 07/01/2021 21:50

Paramo coats are brilliant for walking in. Look for their outlet store on the internet and you’ll get one for around £200. Full price they’re around £300.
