Popsy dresses

Just wondered what people thought of these dresses and how they rate the quality?

Some of the prints look like fun! I just wondered was it fun in a oh nice dress or a little too much!?

They have an interesting Facebook group.

I just bought my first but was dubious! I have to say I love it. I've had so many compliments and feel great wearing it. The material is really soft and comfortable to wear. I asked to size up on the belt, which they did with no problem at all. I would buy another.

Fallulah · 21/12/2020 08:45

I have a few of the more sensible prints/stripes but the ‘quirky’ prints aren’t for me. Some of them end up looking quite frumpy IMO.
They’re well made but some of them bobble terribly. Any conversation about this is stopped on their Facebook page so they know it’s an issue.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 21/12/2020 08:46

I love mine. I used to buy a lot of Lindy Bop before they went bust, so was dubious as most popsy are a jersey fabric. But it's v comfortable and lovely prints.

PinkPonyTail · 21/12/2020 09:06

Thanks all!

I see there are different styles, the model on the website looks tiny and suits the dresses. I’m just wondering if the pleated style wouldn’t be very flattering on curves.

I love the cuts of some of these dresses and they look very comfy, but I wish they had a bigger selection of plainer fabrics.

Boysarebackintown · 21/12/2020 13:19

I love their prints but after looking on their website and Facebook page I was put off. Firstly - have a look at the feedback where lots of people complain about pilling on the fabric ( they are mostly jersey fabrics). Secondly, their Facebook pages are filled with people who seem to spend vast amounts of money on the dresses and they have a weird new product drop every week where they all battle to get the new stock and talk about the dresses as ‘she’ and ‘her’ - .I felt it was actually guilting people to keep up, it was quite strange actually and really put me off.

cherrypiepie · 21/12/2020 13:34

@Boysarebackintown agree there is a social media hype about them. I bought one and sent it back as it had a weirdly high waist. Personally I think they are a bit frumpy now. Lots of people wear them daily for work -including people I know in real life- and it's quite a distinctive looks and obviously a popsy dress.

hennybeans · 21/12/2020 13:38

I ordered one but had to send it back. I am 5'10 and the dress was ridiculously proportioned too small on me. Sleeves too short, dress too short, belt sitting on my ribcage instead of my waist.
I know you don't say how tall you are OP, but just in case someone else tall is wondering about them.
The quality was so so. Fabric looked alright but the belt was very cheap, dress arrived wrinkled.

QueenPaws · 21/12/2020 20:48

I'm 5ft 10 and only really wear the blouson shape (amy) and have the Shirley which is a perfect fit. I'm a top heavy hourglass

Jayneisagirlsname · 21/12/2020 21:41

I bought a Christmas print this year and I've worn it constantly. The fabric is soft, comfy and has washed well so far. I also now have some pyjamas which I'm also pleased with. Some of the prints are a bit much for me, but the dress I have has had lots of compliments

The Facebook group is strange. Very competitive buying, and I also couldn't bear the calling dresses 'she' and 'her'. I also got really annoyed by a post about the Keira Bell case and how unfair it was. Lots of misinformation about puberty blockers being entirely reversible. I reported and left.

pointyshoes · 22/12/2020 11:24

I have one dress. The print looked lovely on the website but when you see it up close you realise it’s very cheap polyester which will never wear well. The dress is also very cheaply made with corners cut at every opportunity. I’d never buy from them again.

clpsmum · 22/12/2020 11:26

I have two and love them both will definitely buy more

clpsmum · 22/12/2020 11:26

Ps if you click on the styles you can see real customers of all shapes and sizes wearing the dress

Last paragraph you wrote is really shocking @Jayneisagirlsname glad I swerved them.
PinkPonyTail · 22/12/2020 15:39

I had a look on the Facebook group and there is definitely a Popsy 'look' which I'm not sure I like.

Seems to be encouraging of wearing those thick waist belts which isn't particularly flattering. And then many posts of it looks lovely...

Marsis · 22/12/2020 15:45

Similar to others I thought they looked ok on the website but the FB group suggested poor quality and the she/her thing .. where did that even start?

tabulahrasa · 22/12/2020 15:49

I’m 5 ft 7 1/2 and the waists are empire line on me... which is a shame because I liked them other than that

pigletpie2177 · 22/12/2020 17:19

I had a few but got rid of most of them a few months ago. They do at least hold their value quite well. I agree that the she/her thing is weird and some of the fabric bobbles very quickly. The belts that come with them are skinny ones (unless something has changed in the last few months) so any thick ones will have been bought separately.

Oldraver · 22/12/2020 17:27

I joines thier FB group after seeing it mentioned on here. I like the look of the dresses and styling but found the website very difficult. All those names for dresses which seemed to be the patetrn rathe rthan the style

billybullshitterz1n · 22/12/2020 17:28

I bought two for work during lockdown. They are grand for the price, have pockets and are comfy yet smart. I'm size 12

Bluewavescrashing · 22/12/2020 17:29

Mine suits me as I'm short waisted but the 100% polyester content is quite sweaty. I wouldn't buy again.

ApolloandDaphne · 22/12/2020 17:45

One of my friends wears Popsy dresses almost exclusively. I've bought the black velvet one for Christmas Day and it is a lovely style on me. But there aren't many in that particular style and shape which is a shame. I would also prefer cotton mix fabric which they don't seem to do.

Fortniterocket · 22/12/2020 18:29

I have lots of their dresses. I quite like them. They're decent enough for the price, they don't need ironed and they have pockets. I also like the quirky patterns. They're pretty much just Jersey dresses really.

I actually think the pleated or gathered style is quite flattering on me. But I don't have big boobs. I do think that style can look very frumpy on women with bigger busts.

My favourite thing about them is that they do an alteration service. So I get the arms shortened so they're not the frumpy 3/4 sleeves and the length altered so they're just above knee length on me. I also think on or below the knee would be frumpier too.
