Hi all,

So I've been noticing recently that my skin is SUPER dry... to the point that when I put my foundation on (using a moisturiser and a primer first) you can clearly see the areas of dry skin and my makeup looks patchy 😢☹️

Does anybody recommend anything I can do? Any particular products?

Thanks in advance for any tips!

I feel your pain! I had the driest skin ever, until I started using Toleriane Ultra Mist and Hydraphase Serum, both from La Roche Posay. I also started using Rosehip oil from The Ordinary a few times a week. Honestly can't believe the transformation over the last few months. No more dry, red skin, hurrah!
Hope you find something that works for you Smile

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 20/12/2020 21:21

Have you tried exfoliating and drinking more water?

printedlace · 20/12/2020 21:30

@SeeSawSeen thanks for the suggestions! I can't believe how red my skin is, too?! It literally looks live I've been running a marathon or something 😢🤣🤷‍♀️

Calendula cream worked miracles on my face and it’s not very expensive

NorbertMeubles · 20/12/2020 22:12

Weleda Skin Food is brilliant as is the old fashioned Ponds Cold Cream.

Eaumyword · 20/12/2020 22:16

I second Weleda Skin Food Light. Got it in I think last year's Holland&Barrett advent calendar. It is very moisturising but not too 'cloggy'.

NorbertMeubles · 20/12/2020 22:18

Buy the original Weleda Skin Food though if your skin is very dry (not the Light) It's magic stuff it really is!

SheeshazAZ09 · 20/12/2020 22:20

Another vote for weleda skin food. Wonderful stuff.

VicMackey · 20/12/2020 22:20

Eucerin is good too especially if the skin is sensitive / red

p2312 · 20/12/2020 22:35

Look up 7 skins method. Its basically 7 layers of hydrating toners. I used to suffer from tight, dry skin. But since doing 7 skins, it has improved drastically.

I have shocker eczema and dry skin

Best thing for me is O’Keefe’s body lotion - puts a sort of film on your skin which in my case really protects it.

Dr was reminding me recently to moisturise twice a day when it’s playing up, once a day as maintenance.

Hope it helps

partyatthepalace · 20/12/2020 23:02

... oh and I have tried everything - Aveno, eucerin, neutrogena, Nivea, and all the prescription ones. The only one anywhere as good as O’Keefes is la Roche Posay lipikar Baume - It’s great and v rich, but more expensive and long term I think o’keefes is better.

cherrypiepie · 20/12/2020 23:02

Ok this may or may not be helpful!

I have and awful reaction to the cold and come out in almost a rash around my nose and mouth, severe dry, red skin. Like a teardrop shape from the top of my nose to my chin. The lovely therapist who does my nails said it sounded like and impaired barrier. I tried a gazillion cremes and potions and methods. Nothing worked abs my skin became red and sore and too sensitised to anything. Hurt to touch or plain water or anything.

Foundation does not go on right when all you want to do is cover it up... I sympathise

I then tried the over the counter hydrocortisone cream and it worked overnight. I actually found some stronger stuff on prescription and used that and it is brilliant. Now hears the catch- your not supposed to use these on your face unless directed but a doctor because they thin the skin. But it works in one does for me so i do it!

I also used the no7 hydro luminous foundation and I do think that sits nicely on my skin and it is supposed to 'help more over time' if you believe the PR but I really do rate it.

I now use the Aldi q10 day cream abs night cream and find they plump up my skin.

Hope you find a solution!

I find a thin layer of Vaseline over my face just before i go to sleep (after usual moisturiser has had a chance to sink in - I just use nivea blue pot) works a treat. Cheap as chips so may be worth a go - I have eczema and sensitive skin and it is fine for me and stops the flaking dry skin I used to get in the winter

OrangeBlossom28 · 20/12/2020 23:20

Weleda skin food or CeraVe moisturising cream. A bit more spendy but brilliant is Dr Jart + Ceramidin

Plonque · 20/12/2020 23:32

When I'm having a really bad dry spell my Tropic hot cloth cream cleanser really helps.
Yes, I know - it's MLM that I was "conned" into buying by a friend but I was surprised as any to find that it does actually work for me Blush unfortunately friend has now ditched tropic but I've checked, you can buy direct off the website which I will definitely do instead of trying to find another mug sales rep.
I did have the tropic moisturiser too and I found that good as well but I've just recently bought the No7 protect and perfect set that boots have on offer. I'm finding it really good!

Antihistamines and Cerave.

stevalnamechanger · 20/12/2020 23:54

Welda skin food is AWFUL . Full of irritants like essential oils / botanicals .

La roche posay Toleriane range / cicaplast Baum
Layer of Vaseline on top
Aveeno creams are decent too

iswhois · 20/12/2020 23:59

Once a month I other my face in hydrocortisone and it clears it up overnight (although doctors/chemists would kill me for admitting to this)

It's the only think that works this time of year

UrghThisIsHard · 21/12/2020 00:04

Eucerin. This one as a moisturiser www.boots.com/beauty/skincare/facial-skincare/moisturiser/eucerin-dry-skin-replenishing-cream-urea-with-lactate-and-carnitine-75ml-10022066 and the 10% ointment or aquaphor for patches. Smile

Amazed you’re recommending a petroleum-based product over a plant-based one.
knockeduplockeddown · 21/12/2020 00:30

@printedlace Have you started using any new products recently that could be irritating your skin? I got a cleanser containing grapefruit extract last year in a beauty advent calendar and I used it twice (second time was admittedly stupid, I should have clocked it) and it have my face a huge reaction- went really red and rough/dry feeling, and too weeks to recover!

If not and it's just dry skin then something like the following might work (I went from always being told every time i got a facial that my skin was really dry to being congratulated by a beautician as she "almost never sees skin so hydrated in the winter") by changing my whole routine to the following.

Cleanse with a milky cleanser in the morning, and double cleanse in the evening- first with either an oil or a balm, second with a milky cleanser (both massaged onto dry skin and then rinsed of with a warm wet flannel). After cleanser a hyaluronic acid serum, then moisturiser. There are lots of products to suit different budgets so you don't necessarily need to spend a fortune but I found for me there was no one "magic" product, I had to change my whole routine and stick to it. But my skin has been noticeably better since- never dry and no spots 🙌🏻 I have also started to add in extra steps now, but as a basic routine the above worked really well for me!

NeverEnoughCake2 · 21/12/2020 00:48

I find Weleda Skin Food really hurts when my face is irritated too - my skin is sensitive to lots of essential oils. I like Epaderm cream (find it in the eczema section of pharmacies). A small pot is only about £3.50 so it's worth a try!
