Hi all,

So I've been noticing recently that my skin is SUPER dry... to the point that when I put my foundation on (using a moisturiser and a primer first) you can clearly see the areas of dry skin and my makeup looks patchy 😢☹️

Does anybody recommend anything I can do? Any particular products?

Go to your GP to find out if there’s an underlying cause before you start shelling out money on expensive creams. You may have eczema or rosacea or similar. I got prescription only Soolantra for my rosacea and it has been life changing.

Whydidimarryhim · 21/12/2020 05:36

Have you tried E45.

Girlintheframe · 21/12/2020 05:47

I've been having very dry sensitive skin since wearing a mask.
Things I've used are last Roche Posay cicaplast, cetreban and I've recently added Paulas Choice omega serum to help repair my skin barrier.
I've also been washing with cerave hydrating cleanser but it's the cicaplast which has helped the most.

Thanks so much everyone! Lots to look into :)
Just wondering, have any of you used Body Shop drops of youth liquid peel? I've been recommended it by friends multiple times.. 🤔

Do not use anything peeling while you are repairing your skin!

And to help your skin- a few drops of olive oil at night instead of moisturiser.

FamilyOfAliens · 21/12/2020 08:08

OP, I’d second the pp who said don’t pot anything new in your skim until you w spoken to your GP about what might be the problem.

Particularly don’t start using something co raining fragrance.

Sorry about all the typos there!

Thank you all! Xx

I have dry skin (and dry nails and hair and even the dentist said the inside of my mouth is dry, ffs). I do drink a tonne of water and eat more than the 5 a day notion of fruit and veg and I eat salmon a few times a week. I'm still dry.

For my face I use a balm cleanser twice daily. I don't faff with it re any fancy techniques. I put it on before getting in the shower and use a flanel to remove it once in the shower.

About once or twice a week I follow this with something like pixie glow or a vit c tonic, can't remember the brand, it's nordic. And again, about once or twice a month I use the nip and fab dragon's blood mask. After cleansing (or the tonic or the dragons blood) I use one of a couple of The Ordinary serums, either The Buffett or one that targets whatever I think I need help with. I then the TO hyaluronic acid and then either the rose hip or the borage face oil. If I'm staying home that might be all I do, but if it's before bed or if I'm going to be wearing foundation then I put on some EA8hr cream (i.e. vaseline, I just happen to have a lot of this) or Nivea blue tub, and then apply the foundation before this dries.

This routine has got rid of my dry patches and has massively improved the look of my foundation - I now am a little dewy as opposed to dusty dry!

Mine has gone really dry at the minute so have started using trilogy rosehip oil, i have really reactive skin so was worried about adding it in but its great so far, really moisturising

goose1964 · 21/12/2020 15:48

I use Superdrug B. Stage 5 moisturiser, it's brilliant and relatively inexpensive. I bought it because my skin suddenly went dry.

Superdrug B. Range is brilliant - very rich and so unperfumed and it feels so pure plus it’s usually on the half price or BOGOF deal. I stock up on the eye creams when they have a spend £50 and get £5.00 in points, it’s lovely eye cream - I use the stage 4. Does anyone remember the Optimum’phyto deluxe’ range they did ? Was fantastic but I think too expensive for them to produce at the price ...it’s sadly discontinued now the serum was lovely. Cannot see the night and day creams on their site at the moment though.

@Whydidimarryhim

Have you tried E45.
This, when my skins been really dry E45 is the only thing that seems to work.
kirkandpetal · 21/12/2020 18:36

Balance Me Rose Otto facial oil - brilliant stuff.

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 21/12/2020 18:51

Started using Facetheory products. Have a look online.

KateMAB · 21/12/2020 18:57

Another vote for E45 my skin gets dry to the point that it flakes off my forehead if I touch it, E45 is the only thing to make a difference

Gwenhwyfar · 22/12/2020 12:01

Bowl of water on the radiator or a humidifier?

Glitterb · 22/12/2020 19:19

My skin has been awful this winter dry, cracked and sore.
The only thing that has worked has been vaseline around the dry sore patches on a night, seems to be working a treat!

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 23/12/2020 14:29

Aveeno Cream With Colloidal Oats is amazing. Not the lotion. The Cream.

princessTiasmum · 23/12/2020 23:11

My skin seemed to get very dry after the heating went on, could be coincidence, might just have been a change in the weather, but I had some Nivea soft, so started using it at night, can't believe the difference,in a short time ,and cheap

LightOfAThousandStars · 26/12/2020 14:27

Treat your skin realltly gently especially if things are stinging because your moisture barrier might be damaged. If you follow Dr Dray she recommends a lot of great moisturisers. I don't like the Weleda Skin Food for the same reasons others have mentioned, the essential oils irritate my face even more. La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baum is excellent, it's very thick though so better suited at night, the zinc in it is really soothing. Otherwise moisturiser with Hyaluronic Acid like Neutrogena Gel Cream is good for moisture and you can layer over with a richer moisturiser like QV Cream.

IsadoraDuncanDonuts · 26/12/2020 14:49

I had really dry skin through most of my life, especially in the winter. My skin has been much better for the last few years. I’ve found:

  1. Using a creamy cleanser really helps. Liz Earle cleanse and polish works for me, but I know opinion is divided.
  2. A serum with hyaluronic acid is good.
  3. Neal’s Yard Wild Rose Beauty Balm is the cat’s pyjamas as a moisturiser in the winter.
  4. Infrequently, a mild lactic acid exfoliant can help take off the top dry layer.
Gwenhwyfar · 26/12/2020 19:58

I use Neutrogena Norwegian formula concentrated hand cream on my whole body. It's the best thing I've found for my KP (chicken skin).

PenOrPencil · 26/12/2020 20:15

I usually have super dry skin, but since I have started using coconut oil and a hot cloth to remove make up in the evening it has improved a lot!
After cleaning I use Weleda Skin Food, Nivea in the blue pot or Aldi Caviar Cream, they all work for me.
