Well not really 😂

But this glimpse of a Vivienne Westwood BBC interview in 1996 made me think of things a little differently, when she says these basic pieces are just about making manufacturers more money:

Perhaps you could summarise?

I can't get ti to play so I don't know what she said, but I always thought the big designer cash cows were accessories, particularly bags and scarves?

And bog standard tee shirts emblazoned with a designer logo?

But commerce has always been smoke and mirrors. (I'm not opening a FB article but surmise that VW was talking about the 80s/90s?) Some guile and knowledge is useful in shopping, but we all make a choice as to what we find acceptable. I've ignored every single one of the millions of loud Black Friday /Last Chance to Buy! entreaties clogging my inbox recently, but I'm perfectly ready to pay silly money for a particular lipstick or perfume because something about them makes me happy.
