Show me your pixies!

I recently had my hair chopped off and the hairdresser left me with a very messy pixie cut that needed 'doing' every day. It was still quite long on top so when I went back for a trim I showed her this nice shorter pixie that I'd seen online.

THIS. IS. NOT. WHAT. SHE. DID. TO. ME.

She's butchered my hair. I look like a little boy 😭

Please show me your pixie cut for some inspiration ❤️

Unhelpful reply but I love the cut attached and I'm so tempted!

hopeishere · 18/12/2020 18:43

Short hair needs work. In my experience it needs product and make up to work.

Absolutely, I'm totally open to that. The problem with the longer pixie was that my hair is wavy and being left long on top made me look a bit like jedward 🤣

I have a pixie and yes, it's work. Needs product and a bit of styling. Mine also needs highlights for body and volume.

I wear makeup all the time.

I also think it helps to be slim/petite.

How did weight become a factor here? Hmm

I have a pixie and have done in various guises for longer than I can remember. Its now similar to OPs pic as through lockdown I've being using number 10 clipper blade - saved a fortune. No longer colour it either. I wash, sometimes dry and use wax type product or wash and use a product for wet hair. Takes 2 minutes and versitile with regard to differnt styles - smooth and slick or messy. I wear minimal makeup but always earrings, never thought I look like a boy or a man.

Bunchup · 19/12/2020 07:01

Agree with PP, weight is a factor. Pixies are, after all, 'little people '.

I look great with a pixie cut at 10 stone, less so at 14.

Exhaustotron · 19/12/2020 07:16

I have a very similar cut to that in the image, but a different colour.

Search #pixiecut and Sunil variants on Instagram, you'll get to know a few posters who have beautiful, and ever changing short hair cuts.

I honestly think the right short cut (done well) can make anyone look amazing. You don't have to be small or thin or have 'the right' face.

BUT, lots of stylists just can't cut pixies.

@HowManyToes look out for good pixie cuts in your local area and ask every single person who cuts their hair. Be prepared to travel for the right person.

Have you messed it up with wax and done your make up and earrings. I don’t mean plastered on/night out style just a freshen up. I’m no advert for short hair but a bit of styling goes a long way.

Coffeepot72 · 19/12/2020 08:58

I suit short-ish hair but I felt dreadful with a pixie. With longer hair, I could just bung on jeans and a hoodie, minimal make-up, and still look ok and female. But with a pixie, that just wasn’t an option. I remember shooting out the house early one morning, to drop my car off at the garage - I caught my reflection and was horrified, I looked like I’d “given up” on my appearance.

jellybe · 19/12/2020 09:02

Love my pixie. Though it currently needs a re cut. I find a bit of wave in my hair really helps it look good - gives it texture.

Could you maybe share a pic of yours and we could possibly help with the styling of it. I use a bit of moose on it when wet then a bit of wax after drying styling- literally takes 10 minutes.

ageingdisgracefully · 19/12/2020 09:55

It was certainly a factor for me. When I put on some weight the look I had was anything but pixie. It was a matter of proportion I think rather than size - I've got a small head and face and it just didn't look right.

Mine is slightly longer than your picture, OP, same colour but more volume and a fringe.

247SylviaPlath · 19/12/2020 10:13

Know it’s not what you’re asking but I think you look lovely (and not like a little boy!) - it suits your face shape, and the one thing you’re guaranteed is it will grow soon - maybe a new hairdresser is in order though if she didn’t manage to copy the style you wanted.

pickleface · 19/12/2020 10:26

I've had my hair quite short for a good few years now but over lockdown I bit the bullet and gave myself an undercut. When I got bored of that I started doing my head all over with a number six and bleaching it et voila...

pickleface · 19/12/2020 10:26

I should add I'll probably wash it about once a week and style it by running wet hands through it after waxing it after the first wash. Super easy as I'm super lazy

grey12 · 19/12/2020 10:27

Can I ask you something? Is your head/face shape like the model's? Because that can have a huge influence on how the hairstyle looks like.

I tend to search for photos of a celebrity that kind of looks like me to check hairstyles and makeup

nickyschof · 19/12/2020 10:29

Op, I presume the picture you've posted is how you'd like your hair to be like. If this is you, however, you look bloody fantastic. 😀

Thanks for sharing @pickleface, your hair looks fab! Mine is a similar length on top just now but the butcher hairdresser I saw last week has trimmed my hair much shorter at the back and sides. Practically a bloomin skin fade 😩

@247SylviaPlath if you read my OP is quite clear that this is not me. This is the pic I showed the hairdresser.

Quite disappointed I came to ask for inspiration and got so many weight/face shape comments. Oh well, I'll head to insta for some inspiration.
