Do I want a red leather jacket?

SingleHandSue · 14/12/2020 19:16

I’ve asked a shop in town to put by a red Schott leather jacket that’s been reduced to £50.

It fits, it’s lovely soft leather, and the style is nice.

But it’s a bright red. I wouldn’t normally choose a bright red.

But then again it’s only £50 and DH has said I can have it for Xmas 🤔

What should I do?

Its reduced for a reason.

RebeccaRaspberry · 14/12/2020 19:20

I'd give it a swerve if it was me as I really would look like I should be walking the Corrie cobbles! I have a very plain Jagaer leather jacket in black and I feel a bit try hard in that!

But only you know you and your style

SingleHandSue · 14/12/2020 19:25

It’s this one.

Nooooooooooooo 😳

Onedropbeat · 14/12/2020 19:28

I like it

It’s more brown than red

I actually had a properly red leather jacket once

I loved it but my boyfriend hated it and wouldn’t let me wear it

ScrapThatThen · 14/12/2020 19:29

I was obsessed with getting that one a couple of years ago OP so I say go for it, bargain. What would you wear it with?

goose1964 · 14/12/2020 19:30

I love it, there's nothing wrong with a bit of colour.

aurori · 14/12/2020 19:30

As a bag yes, as a jacket no!

OppsUpsSide · 14/12/2020 19:30

Oh I actually like it

BlairCorneliaWaldorf · 14/12/2020 19:34

Unless the colour is not showing correctly that is not bright red!

Bright red = only for fancy dress
Colour as in your photo = I wouldn’t but it’s quite nice.

purplecorkheart · 14/12/2020 19:35

Can I ask would you consider buying it at full price? In your day to day life where/when or what do you see yourself wearing it?
Does the colour suit your skin tone? Why do you not wear red normally? Does that zip flatter you? Will it suit your present wardrobe or will you end up buying things to wear with it.

Sorry for all the questions but things to think about. I kind of look at sales as items that other people have rejected unless very high end so I am be a bit bias.

SingleHandSue · 14/12/2020 22:50

Thanks everyone for the comments and help deciding, it’s definitely given me food for thought. I think I’m swaying away from it now.

Can I ask would you consider buying it at full price? God no, but then I wouldn’t pay that for the most perfect jacket in the world.

In your day to day life where/when or what do you see yourself wearing it? I love the look of leather jackets over midi dresses and I think that look would suit my shape.

Does the colour suit your skin tone? I don’t know actually, I’ve never had my ‘colours’ done so I don’t really know. I’m a typical English pasty type, pale blotchy skin and mousey hair naturally but currently dyed reddish brown.

Why do you not wear red normally? I do wear red but tend to go for more burgundy/plum shades

Does that zip flatter you? surely a zips a zip? What style thing am I missing? Confused

Will it suit your present wardrobe or will you end up buying things to wear with it Possibly not, I tend to wear dark red/grey/tan/khaki green and often accessorise with leopard print so don’t think it’ll go with a lot of my clothes.

FYI I live in France and see this type of thing around ALL the time. Guess it's less fashion driven here so things like leather jackets never look wrong - plus that one isnt bright red

CharitySchmarity · 15/12/2020 09:24

I can't be sure whether you want one but I definitely do! If I saw one like that in my size for that price I'd be all over it. I think I'd go for it in your situation - of the colours you mentioned that you wear a lot, I think it would go well with grey and leopard, but it would go even better with black if you ever wear that.

Purplecatshopaholic · 15/12/2020 18:55

Yup, like this. Great autumnal kind of colour - defo not bright red - so will go with loads of things of similar tones. Would go with jeans, trousers but defo also skirts and dresses. I say go for it (I already have something similar in other shades, so am biased, I must admit).

Tryingtogetitright · 15/12/2020 19:06

It's lovely! Go for it!

Badadabing · 15/12/2020 19:17

Proper made me laugh 😂
Ghostlyglow · 15/12/2020 19:58

Yes.

Poshjock · 15/12/2020 20:52

That is gorgeous and I think it will go brilliantly with khaki. Leather jackets are a staple for me though. I have one similar in bright Orange that I got from Paris and I wear it with my brown/green palette. I’m yellow skin toned and very pale.

Poshjock · 15/12/2020 20:57

My leather jacket. I love it and wear it so much. It goes with everything and can be dressed up or down.

borntobequiet · 15/12/2020 21:40

I’ve got an All Saints one that I love, but it’s a more muted red than that. It looks good with just about anything.

upsidedownroundabout · 15/12/2020 21:48

No you don't

SingleHandSue · 15/12/2020 22:46

This photo shows the true colour better, it’s too bright isn’t it?

I’m always a bit scared of ending up looking cheap and tacky (I’ve got one of those faces) so if it’s too Liz McDonald I’m going to have to avoid it.

Based on that last photo it would be a no from me.
