Curls drop out!

Trying to curl my hair with straighteners. Hairdresser gave me a few hints and tips and it doesn’t look as good as when she dies it but not bad. And then the curls just drop out! I’ve barely left the house and they’re gone. What am I doing wrong?

I find mine last longer on day old hair... freshly washed they just drop.

BringBiscuits · 13/12/2020 22:15

Redtartanshoes thanks. Will try again on day 2

I use hair mousse too

JamesMoriarty · 13/12/2020 22:23

Definitely try it on hair the day after or even second day after it's been washed. Hairspray?

BringBiscuits · 13/12/2020 22:30

Hair is dry not wet when curled. Have put in mousse before drying but maybe should do it after drying but before curling? Haven’t used hairspray, but good call.

My hairdresser uses hairspray and a texturising spray.

I curl my hair with GHDs daily and they would fall out within an hour or so if I didn't use hairspray. I use this green Silvrikin one and it's great. Brushes out easily but great hold

My hair is wavy, frizzy and thick and doesn't hold any curls.

I have tried a number of products

MaverickDanger · 13/12/2020 23:28

Lee Stafford Lived in Spray, & leave the curls in until cool before brushing through.

Have you ever tried making pin curls instead?

Make the curls on moussed hair with your fingers and pin them flat to your head with a kirbie (Bobby pin) overnight.

When you wake up they have been in that shape for eight hours or whatever and they stay curled longer when I unpin them and run my fingers through gently and hairspray them for the day. Within an inch of their life.

I have very thick hair which doesn't hold a curl

I use a S@#t tonne of hairspray. If I'm lucky - it may last half the day.
I've used all sorts of hairsprays from expensive to cheap
Elnett is the only one that holds my curls for more than an hour or two

Redtartanshoes · 14/12/2020 11:17

Also try sock bun method. Works a treat

Ginfilledcats · 14/12/2020 14:48

Curl it tight so it looks like ridiculous Victorian cork screw curls, spray it with hair spray, then brush out!

MedusasBadHairDay · 14/12/2020 14:51

The only way I can get curls to stay in my hair is with a either a wet set with setting lotion, or using heated curlers and setting spray.

BringBiscuits · 14/12/2020 17:31

So tried again today and lasted a bit longer as hair isn’t freshly washed. Didn’t have hairspray but put mousse on.
