Is Harkel a bit young for me?

I'm 33. I don't feel old, but before lockdown I spend some time opting for tailored, clean-looking clothing. However a year of being at home is making me want more colour.

I would have worn clothes like this in my early-mid twenties. Does it all look a bit young? I'd wear some of it at work (no dress code, but usually smart casual - however I've seen some other women wear bold printed pieces before styled well and I think they look amazing).

What do you think? I'm liking the attached outfit quite a bit.

Is Harkel a bit young for me?

Are you a children's TV presenter?

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 13/12/2020 20:44

I’ve never heard of harkel before, so,I had a good ol look. The jersey dresses are really pretty
If it’s in keeping with your natural style, go for it The clothes aren’t teen young or too youthy
The prints are similar to fat face and white stuff and plenty women wear them and look good

XmasHollie · 13/12/2020 20:45

Ivs got harkel stuff and I'm 34. The model looks 30s to me

Thank you. I wasn’t sure as I really tried to restyle for a more ‘professional’ appearance last year - whereas now, I just want some fun and colour in my life. They popped up on FB and I just loved them. I think I could style things out - like the skirt with a plain coloured knitted jumper for example.

@XmasHollie What’s the sizing like?

Ha, not quite! But I am back office comms so I guess have a bit more leeway.

Sizing for the jumper I've got is fine. I'm a 10 and it fits perfectly

Sasuma · 13/12/2020 21:30

Never heard of it so had a look! Seems like a slightly odd mix of styles, a few look quite dowdy and some look like the same design could easily be used for a toddlers’ range Wink But if you like it and can wear more casual things at work, I can’t see why you wouldn’t.

Plonque · 13/12/2020 21:34

I like the look of some of the harkel stuff.
That pic you've given as an example, I'd wear that top with plain bottoms. It's too much "prints and twee" together with the skirt.
Some of the stuff is just too much full stop though, for me. I'd probably compliment your outfit if I saw you, and mean it, but it's not really "me"

^^ that would be a selling point for me, I like fun clothes. Not everyone ones to dress head to toe in Boden neutrals

MrsW85 · 13/12/2020 21:47

I've got the rainbow dress. Its beautiful and I'll definitely be buying more from them next summer. Im 35 btw.

Luckily those aren’t the only two options.
Saturdayliein · 13/12/2020 22:23

FWIW I'm 40 and have a Jersey dress and a skirt from Harker which I love.

Boden goes pretty hard for the garish twee prints too.

I think this look is fun colourful creative woman in 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond. So definitely not too old at 33. Enjoy yourself.

LadyR77 · 14/12/2020 16:28

I'm 43 and I have this dress from them - I love it! So no, you're definitely not too old...

Thank you all! I’ve bit the bullet and ordered loads (with the intention of returning some bits depending on fit/ look on me).

I did um and ahh about that dress @LadyR77 but decided against it in the end. I’m beginning to regret it!

I went for the more ‘conservative’ pieces with a couple of interesting bits thrown in to see what I think.

Plus I’m sure my 3 year old will be delighted with it all. You should see his excitement when I wear my watermelon socks 😆

I have that star cardigan and the sizing is generous.

I’m glad you said that! I ordered in my pre-COVID size optimistically (I may have piled on a few lbs) so I’m hoping it will be fine. Delivery is due tomorrow so I will see then how everything fits Smile
