I've just bought a pair of Fly Gore-tex ankle boots. I need mine for work. They are so comfy. Lots of good deals on the moment too.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 06/12/2020 19:20

There’s a vast amount of water between those boots and stiletto heels, though - there are hundreds of pairs of flat comfy boots out there in different styles. That’s all pp (and your DH) are saying. I personally don’t like those ones, but if you do then that’s all that matters.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 06/12/2020 19:39

I agree with your DH, sorry. I think you can get comfy boots that are nicer.
But that said, if they really are the most comfy things ever, sod his opinion and wear them anyway. I have a pair of sandals my DH dislikes but I love them and wear them anyway!

SmileyClare · 06/12/2020 20:18

I hope this thread hasn't dented your confidence too much.

I remember how I felt after having a baby; not that confident in how I looked, I'd put on some weight, hadn't recovered from pregnancy, adjusting to being a mum and not that much time to put together an outfit in the mirror.

The boots are not awful, no one's going to be pointing and laughing in the street. In fact I like that sort of style minus the furry bit! If you're stomping about in the winter with a pram then comfort is a major factor Wink

HuggedTheRedwoods · 06/12/2020 20:33

I quite like them and if they're comfy I dont see the problem, you're wearing them not your DH. I usually holiday in fairly cold places where warm and practicle takes priority over fashion and no-one would bat an eyelid at this style.

SmileyClare · 06/12/2020 20:38

I'm lucky enough to have three sisters to go to for any fashion advice. I don't ask dh. They'll always be tactful and provide general confidence bolstering comments and there won't be any sniggering and making comments about old ladies.

CosyQueen · 06/12/2020 20:53

I’m in my late twenties, I would say slightly yes. I think if they were black they come across a bit less old lady-ish?

batteriesgoing · 06/12/2020 21:00

@SmileyClare it's true. I feel like I don't know what to put on. In the last trimester I suddenly accumulated hoodies which I've never worn in my life and I'm still in them. I've only got about a stone to lose and I'm not quite 2 weeks post birth so it could be a lot worse. Just feel like I need to find comfy things that look vaguely fashionable.

Ah we've all been there batteriesgoing you'll get back your mojo soon enough! If you go out everyone will be looking at your beautiful baby rather than your feet, which is a bonus when you've just had a baby and don't know what to wear Grin

Gurufloof · 06/12/2020 21:39

I dont hate them, but I think you could find better. Tell us your budget and we can look for some for you.
Real Uggs are bloody marvellous. I have many pairs, none have gone sloppy yet and with the added advantage of fur in the whole boot not just the top. I like warm feet. Also timberlands have many styles and are hard wearing for the money. Grenson have many lovely (but expensive) boots and a sale is due soon. I personally dislike sorrel boots but I can see they are warm and waterproof. Celtic and co do a wonderful pair of boxer boots that I crave but cannot justify when I have so many boots already.

batteriesgoing · 06/12/2020 21:48

@Gurufloof. I am going to return them. Apart from anything black would be more practical. I don't really want to pay more than £80 although dh would pay ugg price. I'd prefer to buy from next directory as well as we live out in the sticks and I never get around to postal returns.

Have you looked at Next's forever comfort boots? A lot are flat, some even lined. Saw a couple that caught my eye.

The important thing is to wear something that you like, feel comfortable in and makes you happy.

OH thinks my cat shoes are ridiculous and 5yo worthy but they make me happy and excited every time I wear them. That trumps his opinion.Grin

LizzieVereker · 06/12/2020 21:54

@batteriesgoing

I need something flat and warm, easy to get on for the school run. Dh suggested uggs but I'm not sure. I always think they look sloppy quickly.
Good god, if he’s suggesting Uggs he has absolutely no taste. Take no notice, keep the boots which you like. Or let him do the school run in soggy felt wellies.
batteriesgoing · 06/12/2020 21:59

@AccidentallyOnPurpose I bought a few pairs of them in the sale in the summer but ended up sending them all back because they were uncomfortable. With hindsight I didn't realise my feel were swelling so they probably would have been ok.

Ecco make really comfortable boots.

@LizzieVereker ye he has a thing for brands and labels. I resist it as much as possible

If your husband is willing to pay ugg prices then something like this

www.ugg.com/uk/aveline-boot/1112469.html

Or a more budget version.

www.superdry.com/womens/boots/details/154757/faux-fur-tempter-boots--black

He’s right though, those boots are very elderly person.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 07/12/2020 01:43

I like those boots that Bluntness linked to - it’s not Ugg the brand I’ve got an issue with, but the typical slipper boots are not suitable for actual proper walking, and are not supportive of your feet and ankles.

Now I’m in the mood for buying boots!

Girlzroolz · 07/12/2020 05:01

Nah, old ladies buy those in more serviceable darker colours. Yours are more of a fashion colour way.

You do you. Anyone who criticises your choices in apparel should be invited to experience the boots from closer up, preferably bum first.

chatwoo · 07/12/2020 05:06

Uggs have waterproof/outdoor boots now - so not just the indoor/slipper/non-waterproof styles - they are pricey but look pretty nice!

lunalulu · 07/12/2020 05:30

If DH is happy to pay for uggs, get them!!!!! They are amaaaazingly comfy and safe! You will never want to take them off.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 07/12/2020 09:01

I’ve got a pair of heeled Ugg boots that I haven’t worn yet, might wear them into town today!

Hope you enjoy your boot search, and find a great pair, @batteriesgoing

upsidedownroundabout · 07/12/2020 09:47

The clumpy look is fashionable though so I wouldn't worry about looking clumpy.

I think you absolutely need to be comfy but I also think post birth you feel so minging that it's nice to have something a little bit nice to put on that doesn't add to the feeling of frump. Keep looking x

upsidedownroundabout · 07/12/2020 10:00

What about a timberland style boot? They always look cool with jeans or leggings and thick socks I think

pumpingRSI · 07/12/2020 15:44

I bought these which are similar to yours but maybe a bit less old lady like? They've held up really well I'm surprised to say with some added waterproofing spray and at £24.99 a bargain from amazon.

Even better, they are solid enough to give your DH a bit kick up the bottom of he doesn't like them or feels the need to comment further on your shoes choice.
