Age spot ?

FippertyGibbett · 06/12/2020 07:31

I noticed a brown spot high up on my cheek some time ago. I wasn’t sure if it was sun damage or an age spot.
So what should I do to get rid of it ?
I know that there are moisturisers, but I really don’t t know where to start !
Thanks.

I had a couple of age spots so, on a dermatologist recommendation, I started using niacinamide. It’s taken a few months but they’ve practically vanished now.

Surely age spots and sun damage are the same thing?

Anyway retinol is your friend here.

Also traneximic acid works well. I buy it in superdrug £8.99 often on offer

Also keep an eye on it in case its something unpleasant, always worth getting spots and blemishes checked out ifthey change colour or shape, especially if caused by sun.

So do you put these creams on just the area or your whole face ?
I think I’m going to have to buy by the gallon as I’m getting them on my hands and arms now !

I signed up to Dermatica which is an online dermatology service. You upload photos of yourself without make up and a dermatologist prescribes prescription strength treatments for your skin concerns. My problems are wrinkles and age spots so I was prescribed tretinoin for wrinkles and hydroxyquinone for age spots. Every three months you need to upload more photos so they can check progress. It's usually £20/month but I found I didn't need as much as they sent so I've reduced mine to every two months. I've noticed a massive difference in my age spots in three months. It's a brilliant service!

I’d actually like to go and put my face in one of those light boxes that shows sun damage.
Has anyone ever done it ?

Can I ask what format/brand it was @timetest?

Notarealmum, I used the one from my private dermatologist then when I switched to an online dermatology service they included niacinamide in my tretinoin.
