Taking in trousers -does it work

I bought several pairs of indentical straight cut trousers from JCrew online (sale) . They are a very weird fit with far too much fabric width wise in the thighs and are a bit big in the bum. Tailoring is very cheap here so I'd probably pay half of the return postage to alter. Any success stories ?

Have a go with getting one pair altered. If it doesn't work, send the rest back.

When I lived abroad, where tailoring was cheap, I used to always get my clothes altered to adjusted to fit me. It made a huge difference to how I looked as the clothes fitted me perfectly. Go for it.

It sounds like you're trying to alter the original style of them rather than just taking them down a size? Which could be tricky. I got two pairs of eBay trousers altered recently, one great, the other not so much. I think there was just too much fabric and the alteration didn't quite sit well.

I've had them narrowed in the leg and also had the back seam taken in for a better waist / hip fit. It's worked fine. Getting one pair done first is good idea if the returns period gives you time to do it.

I looked and I had mistakely ordered curve chinos so obviously they are designed for the larger bum and thigh.
The waist and length is fine.
I took a pair in to the tailors yesterday and they were ready an hour later !
I gave him a pair of my well fitting trousers to copy and he had me try the weird wide thighed jcrew ones on inside out.
Unbeliveable difference. He charged less than a fiver. Today he will get rhe other 5 pairs.
