Grey Roots, light brown perm box dye, would semi perm cover

I have box dyed light brown hair and about 2" of grey roots showing and am toying with going grey as fed up with dying plus hope condition would be better without all the chemicals.

In the meantime I am wondering if I used a semi permanent to cover the grey roots as I assume it only lasts a certain amount of time/washes.

Would it take as a different colour on the grey roots which are darkish but the odd white patch as opposed to the light brown rest of my hair. I really dont want to end up with orange roots etc.

I am thinking if I could just cover they grey for a few months somewhat until the badger stripe grows out. Thinking I would have to go a bit darker than light brown to cover roots etc. but in the end want to grow out the colour and be a natural grey.

I started growing out my grey about 20 months ago and found the root cover sprays really good for that phase where you have a stripe at the top of your head! less faff than dying too

I have grey roots I use Colour effect from Superdrug you shampoo your hair then put it on and wait 5 minutes then rinse it off I use it once or twice a week in the shower. It covers my grey and makes my light brown hair have an auburn hue.

I use semi perm medium ash brown to cover the badger stripe. I don't think it washes out - certainly not by the time that the stripe returns. I wash my hair every day.
