Is anyone else quite excited about the whole Sloane Ranger revival?

I'm on the lookout for a white shirt for under jumpers, a pair of riding boot type things and am considering a string of (fake / cheap) pearls. I think I've reached peak trainers and hoodies tbh. Excited to get out of them now, although they will always be in my wardrobe for comfort and sport.

The Crown is gripping - you're missing a treat. It's also reminded me that Lady Diana had a style of her own before the royals got their hands on her. I could honestly weep for her, trussed up in that engagement suit and those godamm awful Royal Tour outfits.

@MarshaBradyo

I reckon Di’s haircut - The Crown - version could come back. She looked brilliant.
No. Her hair was bloody awful until her last year or so. (I should know, I had a similar cut and I hated it)
MarshaBradyo · 06/12/2020 12:15

You do need the right hair. Lots of it like actress (if yes really hers not wig)

Have you watched it?
They did it better than Di’s, looked great. Love that but actress had the look.

I think I might have hair a bit like that... I do love a sweepy fringe too.

Long hair has been such a thing now though for a while

VanityWitch · 06/12/2020 12:21

It has. I can't imagine it not being popular. I think, in the past it truly didn't suit that many people. Now lots of people can style their hair or add extensions to create swishy, healthy looking, super long hair. I cba, so mine is mid length and not naturally swishy. It's fine and a bit fluffy. It loses condition when it gets past my collar bone and falls out.

I'm pretty sure I've read Emma Corrin wears a wig. She and Josh O'Connor both very good I think.

I'm bored to death of seeing long hair. I'm sure it won't disappear but it hasn't always been the default look and I don't see why that won't change again.

VanityWitch · 06/12/2020 12:34

Oh that's a bit disappointing that it's a wig! Maybe hair just doesn't go like that au natural.

I've just received a pair of very dark navy, (nearly black...like non priests black socks, if you're a Father Ted fan), leather loafers with gold embellishment on them. Wasn't sure if they might look a bit cheap when I saw them in person, but I think they're lovely. Look more expensive than they are I think.

Hang on, I'll find the link if anyone's interested.

I think with GHD's etc its much easier to have nice longer hair now. I'm sure that's why a lot of women used to go for the chop. Certainly when my mum was my age (40), she and all her friends had short hair.

Oh not leather actually... I suppose that would be too cheap for leather shoes! They are nice in person though. Think I'll keep them.

Mine are the navy ones, not black.

I liked her style pre engagement, the neck scarves and long coat particularly.

queenofarles · 06/12/2020 14:50

I like the shirts and fair Isle Knits Diana wore pre Marriage, not the skirts though,

Floisme · 07/12/2020 09:06

I find it quite spooky seeing some of the Diana Spencer outfits again after so long - the fun jumpers and those pink and white check trousers. i don't think of them as Sloaney but I think we've already established I know very little about that trend! Anyway they make her early Royal outfits seem all the more ghastly - sorry if anyone likes them but I could never get past how ill at ease she looked.

I'm looking forward to seeing some of her 'fighting back' outfits too although I guess we'll have to wait for the next series for most of them.

I'm not a fan of everything she did later by the way but I think her wardrobe tells a fascinating story

I had a fabulous shot taffeta dress for my 18th - I felt like a princess.

I am boringly 80’s with my earring choice: pearls all the way every day, although different colours to suit what I’m wearing. However, that’s as far as I’m prepared to go back. Someone nicked my ancient Barbour and with the demise of Laura Ashley, how will there be a go-to shop for frills and frou frou? Looking at the photos of the time, a pie crust does not suit everyone. We draped ourselves in a variety of knitted Benetton scarves and I would wear up to three at a time, all artfully knotted. At one stage I possessed 19 of them. It’s a wonder we didn’t pass out with heatstroke.

I am in a lockdown style malaise but a return to the 80s is not the remedy for me!

MarshaBradyo · 07/12/2020 19:56

3 scarves Grin

Ours were Benetton too I think. We had the bags stuck in our dorm walls at least and the adverts.

Nearly everyone wore black velvet puff sleeves and shot taffeta (jewel colours) to our school ball. Ah my heart aches thinking of it.
