Have you got time to have one dyed ? I had a french lace one ( I think it is called that - very plane almost like a really soft mesh - excellent waftage Grin ) and the woman I bought it from dyed it. I see she is still around - ( mine was nearly 26 years ago ) so might be worth giving her a call and see if she can do something if you send her a colour sample.

Good luck - I am sure all those other clever people though will have better ideas

Sorry just to say reason to say phone is the shop I went to ( previous one to her current one ) had so much more than the website - but definitely bought my veil from her and she definitely dyed it

@Phwooooar
There's a shop in wales on Etsy that does various colours.
LB Veils. I don't know them or have used them but they might be able to ship quicker if you ask.

Oh sorry, they're in USA - Don't look!

Phwooooar · 03/12/2020 13:32

@SpaceScrap - thank you - have spotted them but they don’t have the right colour. Need a kind of dusty blue.

@Basilisk - lovely to see you pop up again! Wow what an amazing lady and a treasure trove of a shop. Would love to go there for a browse. I’ve found someone on Etsy who may be able to get a veil done quickly but it’s a risk. I’ll end up with 6 veils as well as 3 dresses 🤣 Grin

In which case @Phwooooar it might be worth a few mins to phone Basia Zarzycka and see if any mileage in it ( woman I was talking about above ) Thing would be , if she can do it - giving her a decent colour sample & it won't be returnable if she has made it to order.

@Basilisk - the whole ensemble and getting there has been a journey and is hilarious. The dress and chiffon overlay arrived.. They are both stunning - but not worn together. The chiffon overlay makes me look like a rectangle and takes away the impact of the blue - but it is a work of art. Maybe I can make something out of it. So... I asked them to make me a kind of tie front bolero top in the same blue silk - which they did. They are truly amazing dressmakers. That has arrived and again it’s beautiful and I’ll wear it over the dress. BUT if it’s freezing I’ve also bought a shawl which is still to arrive. I also have my grandmother’s mink stole thing which looks great over the dress but not when I’m wearing the bolero 🤣. I have yet to find jewellery - don’t want to look too blue and I don’t do “dainty”. Shoes - now that’s going to be fun. Currently I’m planning on wearing either walking boots with blue ribbon laces or my trusty Dubarry’s. So the veil is just adding to this. And I have less than 2 weeks to get sorted!

Could the chiffon be made into a veil?

BasiliskStare · 04/12/2020 04:36

Oh @Phwooooar - I am more invested in this than I should be but after 25 years of marriage - one takes one's vicarious glamour where one can get it. The dress looks lovely and the colour is just beautiful.

So when the shawl arrives would it look gorgeous artfully draped with the mink stole over it ( or would that be channeling the woman under whose skirts the narrator of the Tin drum hides - long time since I have read that - pre marriage but sort of potato picking in the fields, ) But - my main point would be - if the shawl & the stole in various combinations work for the beach & then cast them off like Salome and the 7 veils and put on the bolero when you get inside - could that be a plan ? You may ( practical point ) need a fastening for said shawl and stole so that you can let go of them if it is windy so that your bridegroom can actually get the wedding ring over your finger , rather than prising your cold hands off said lovely items Grin - but I am sure you have thought of all that.

Re shoes - both sound great - DuBarry's with a blue ribbon tied round the cord bit could work brilliantly .

This is not helping with the veil - I understand . Anywhere near you who could dye to match a veil you can otherwise find. ( Other ideas you have already thought of available on request Blush

Phwooooar · 08/12/2020 23:02

I found a veil! But it hasn't arrived yet Grin. I think your idea @Basilisk of shawl/stole on beach and then waft Salome-like indoors could work BUT you do know what that means? I now have to find a brooch or pin so I can go hands free to fondle the bridegroom ...

Dubarry's and blue ribbons it is! I might even clean them.
