Not quite foundation?

I was thinking about BFF cream from Trinny London, on the back of a thread on here. I watched a video and think I probably need the face finish thing too, as I’m really quite greasy. Then I read comments about it all being a bit overpriced, which for those two products £60 does seem like a lot.

I tried one BB cream a while ago and it was too greasy and dark.

So, what do you think I need? I am pale, greasy and yellow toned. I sound delightful.

I’m would put a pore filler thing on underneath maybe.

I think there's a bit of trial and error with these things. I use Erborian BB cream on top of Erborian Glow cream. But their website recommends it for pale skin with rosy undertones, rather than yellow, so whether it would be good for you, I'm not sure. It comes out the tube white though and then sort of adjusts to be the colour of my skin but better. A small tube is £16 and it lasts for ages so at least it's less £££ to try.

I'm equally delightful op! I like garners bb cream and get the colour light. I read up quite a bit before trying it.

Garnier 🤦🏻‍♀️

Pale and greasy here too, lol. I use BFF cream with a little pore filler type stuff (garnier blur one , L’Oréal one or sometimes the Trinny miracle blur). Powder on the top and good to go.

I match your charming description too - don't try the erborian as while it's lovely it is just too pinky for us! Though lovely!

I often use a combo of two maybelline urban cover shades - I think it's sesame and warm ivory (not pale ivory which looks pink!) which is paler. In high summer the sesame is right, the rest of the time i have to mix a bit of both on the back of my hand. Apply with a real techniques sponge.

Maybelline is always on some kind of offer somewhere - other great products are the lumi brush concealer and the eyebrow mascara. I honestly think it is the best high street brand, but maybe that's because it does seem to do of yellowy shades! Like a high street bobbi brown.

Other great things are: Tarte foundcealer though its a pain to get the shade right and needs applied with one of those brushes that looks like a toothbrush. Laura Mercier secret camouflage. Maybelline fit me powder in one of the lighter shades. Then, my big splurge: Hourglass ambient powder in dim light (space nk do a travel size for £20) which I use almost as a bronzer at this time of year as I'm so pale. It is a total game changer.

sorry, just checked and it's pure ivory not pale ivory that is the pinky one to avoid.

@GreyishDays This might not be the answer you're looking for but it helped me so I'm hoping it will be helpful for you Smile

I've spent a small fortune over the years on various foundations, BB creams and all different lotions and potions. Foundation never lasted and always flaked off and I never had that 'flawless look'. BB creams make me look like an oompa loompa without the green hair 😆 but during lockdown, I had run out my usual micellar water and cleanser so used a flannel and bar of Dove soap and saw such a difference in days! I now don't wear foundation as I feel so good about my skin.

Like I said, it may not be an answer you wanted but I'm hoping it may be of use to you. Sorry if it's not Smile

I love Clinique CC cream, it's about £30 but gives my skin a smooth glowing appearance with a hint of colour. You don't need to use a lot so it lasts ages.

Thanks everyone, lots to look into! I’ve ended up down a Japanese CC rabbit hole and am considering Canmake Grin
But I dunno...

I’ve been meaning to switch to a BB cream as I’m fed up of using foundation, but like you I don’t know where to start. I’d love to know if there is a way to make your own aka mixing foundation with moisturiser or something similar?

ReallySpicyCurry · 03/12/2020 22:29

Stila did a good one but I've never been able to find it since.

Failing that, I've bought a lot of these over the years, and the best by far for my fair combination skin is the Garnier. I put a little bit of pale cream concealer on underneath which makes it look better

LightOfAThousandStars · 03/12/2020 22:43

Nars tinted moisturiser, lightweight and has a beautiful finish
