I’ve got a pair of leggings from each and the M&S ones are definitely thicker and warmer. Tops wise I’ve got a Uniqlo one and a heat holders one and the Uniqlo one is warmer out of those two.

cannaethink · 02/12/2020 11:32

I’ve got both and I’m not sure I notice a difference. I think I prefer the Uniqlo based on the neckline. The M&S one is a bit too scooped. Both are soft and warm.

Coconut2010 · 02/12/2020 11:35

M&A Heatgen "Plus" for ultimate warmth and comfort. The inside is lined with a thin layer of fleece. I would live in them (both leggings and tops) if I could.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 02/12/2020 11:36

Uniqlo washes and wears much better. My M&S top from last year is like a rag whereas my older uniqlo ones are pretty much good as new. I'd go for the extra warm though.

Coconut2010 · 02/12/2020 11:38

My M&S heatgens from last year are as good as new and I wear/wash them very often.

I'm not sure I can tell the difference in terms of warmth. I have tonnes of thermals - mainly Uniqlo but a few M&S. M&S are fine but I prefer the variety of colours and styles at Uniqlo. The ballet neck ones with lace are really pretty. The extra warm polo necks really are extra warm! I would only get the M&S ones if they were on offer or if I spotted a particularly nice colour.

M and a long sleeved thermal tops run small and short. They feel like a T-shirt material but it’s something soft and thin to layer under other clothes

Seconded.

I have the Uniqlo and the Heatgen Plus ones. If you're going M&S, go straight to the Plus.

It's funny because I was wearing a Uniqlo Heatech and actually thought to myself "this isn't a patch on the M&S ones"

To me the Uniqlo are just ordinary tops that are cosy. The Heatgen Plus are actually warming.

But buy a size up! They're tiiiiiight!

AJTracey · 02/12/2020 17:25

Have a look at Uniqlo’s recent customer service reviews if you plan to buy online.

ThatDirection · 02/12/2020 17:34

I'm so impressed with my heattech top from Uniqlo but I haven't tried an M&S one to compare. It's worn frequently throughout winter and keeps me warm watching kids play outdoor winter sports. That with a jumper on top and I am never cold. Like someone above commented, it goes well through the wash. It is soft and looks like new several years on.

bellagogosdead · 02/12/2020 18:21

There's not much to choose between them. I am fond of my ancient sainsburys ones, but not sure they do them anymore.

Madbengalmum · 02/12/2020 18:25

I find the uniqlo tops just don’t work for me at all. M&s ones i wear everyday with no issues at all.

octopusrus · 03/12/2020 21:27

Thank you so much for the sizing opinions, really helpful!
I've not heard of the 'Plus' range at M&S so that's definitely the way to go if I go for M&S! Interesting there are varied opinions on which is warmest!

Very useful, thanks. There seem to be two listings on the website, with different product codes, one of which is OOS. This are the in-stock version:

SparklingLime · 04/12/2020 06:49

And in black or navy here: www.marksandspencer.com/grown-on-lace-sparkle-vest/p/clp22345767

(not a sparkle vest! 🤷🏻‍♀️)

With the caveat that I haven't bought M&S Heatgen for a few years now so it could have changed since, I found the tops came up very small and were much thinner than my Uniqlo tops.

Saying that, the Uniqlo ones don't seem to be what they were now either - bought two recently and they seem thinner than my older ones. I prefer their shape though - definitely longer and more stretch in the fabric for a better fit. The range of colours appeals to me more too.
