Not rich / expensive (although those threads are a great read).

But that more intangible serene class / grace / elegance?

Posture. Confidence. Ownership of clothes - they look comfortable in whatever they are wearing. There is a mum I see in the playground. I've seen her dressed to impress for work and in her gym gear. She just exudes 'class'. She probably has crappy days like the rest of us but she just look so happy and relaxed, shiny hair, tidy nails. I'm usually fussing with my coat, shoving my hair into a pony tail or nibbling a raggy nail. I don't look classy, lol

scruffyandlockeddown · 29/11/2020 21:10

@Ihatesandwiches I'm the same as you but would like to be more like the mum you see. Can't see it happening but I can dream!

I think a lot of it is how they conduct themself. No swearing, shrieking like a fishwife, shouting etc. Friendly and confident. And also dressing appropriately so no cleavage on display, no very short skirts, no VPL, no obvious Botox/fillers etc.

questionn · 29/11/2020 22:23

tall & willowy help with achieving elegance.

Janegrey333 · 29/11/2020 23:00

A woollen camel coat.

DoveGreylove · 29/11/2020 23:01

Following with interest!
I need this in my life. I looked at myself in the mirror of a shop a while back and thought wtf do I look like, what's happened to me. I looked like a drowned rat.

Ginfordinner · 29/11/2020 23:02

Why camel?
The colour doesn't suit everyone. I look ill in beigey colours.

In fact I never see anyone wearing a camel coloured coat.

DearFriend · 29/11/2020 23:04

Good posture unless it cant be helped due to age or health. Clear accent, calm nice voice. No bright or overpowering colourings, make up or scents. Doesn't swear, neutral controlled facial expression, no brands or vulgarity in jewels or flaunting of aby kind. Understated good quality is the choice always. Very polite and respectful.

Ginfordinner · 29/11/2020 23:07

That more or less describes me DearFriend, but I can't say that I look classy.

Willowy is great when you're young but as we age, too much willowy tends to make the face look a bit haggard. Long scraggly hair the same.

A nice haircut is always classy. But a good haircut is not so easy to find these days, when so many hairdressers only seem to concentrate on dyes, extensions etc

Posture, clean lines, clean hair, minimal make up. Well groomed. Appropriate clothes for the weather, but not too revealing in summer. Basic classic clothes styles that will always be in fashion but with a good silk scarf, belt or earrings

Liam Gallagher once said that good shoes are the most important part of an outfit, then pants and then the top. I think there's probably some truth in that

DearFriend · 29/11/2020 23:15

Meh not sure tall and skinny. You can look very scruffy and rough like a drug addict or walk clumsily with bent knees or shuffle, standing bending knees and haunched. It's not the be all or end all of all that is beautiful and perfect. If i would be picky about a body type its average hieght and slim to medium body that is a pear or hour glass that looks feminine and moves most graciously. Too tall or too short leaves you regularly doing awkward poses or stands to duck down or reach up.
I dont think its a body type but if it were then it would be average hieght than tall and average body weight than willowy... just my 2 cents.

That sounds kind of constipated.

Liam doesn’t follow his own advice! Or did he offer that when he was masquerading as a fashion designer? Wink

Sounds about right.

I see lots of women wearing them! Even young girls - who may be late teens wear them and it looks great. More casual in them but certainly a cut above the usual yoof wear.
Janegrey333 · 29/11/2020 23:44

...on them

Flaxmeadow · 30/11/2020 00:14

Camel coats are so stylish

Did you know that originally they were actually made of camel hair. Which is great for repelling water and stains

Flaxmeadow · 30/11/2020 00:15

Well yes Grin but I think it's kind of true. People do look at what shoes you're wearing. I do it myself

questionn · 30/11/2020 00:18

I don't think willowy has to mean haggard, it's just a body type.

When I think elegant I think of Tilda Swinton, Kristen Scott Thomas, Nicole Kidman,

questionn · 30/11/2020 00:20

It's not the be all or end all of all that is beautiful and perfect.

I completely agree & would never say you had to be tall & slim to be beautiful or perfect but I thought that op asked about grace & elegance?

VaggieMight · 30/11/2020 00:25

Definitely not Nicole Kidman, she's had so much done she looks like a puffed up skull with hair. I'm not anti Botox or fillers but she's entered into wacko jacko territory.

Missthedog · 30/11/2020 00:28

It's posture, confidence, shoes you can walk in and never wearing anything with words or glitter on . Oh and no carrier bags...
