Not rich / expensive (although those threads are a great read).

But that more intangible serene class / grace / elegance?

Yes! Jam a piece of thin fabric between your butt cheeks for the day for immediate class ladies 🤣

Separatedandabitsad · 02/12/2020 01:25

Ah yes! we’ve all fallen victim to camel toe at least once (& foregone the Classiest Lady throne)

Pyewhacket · 02/12/2020 01:36

... because a camel toe with a camel coat isn’t accessorising , it’s just wrong Grin

katy1213 · 02/12/2020 02:08

@bluntness100 - But you spoil the effect by saying that it surprised 'my daughter and I' - which is such an inelegant way to speak.
No good looking the part if you open your mouth and ruin it!

choli · 02/12/2020 09:30

Avoid the fake tan, fake nails, fake hair etc. Natural looks so much better.

Iamthewombat · 02/12/2020 09:35

Can you tell the difference between a fake tan and a real tan? How?

I knew that this thread would go one of two ways: either down the ‘rich people wear old scruffy clothes money shouts wealth whispers blah blah’ cliche road or in the ‘let’s bash people with fake tans and fake nails who wear make up. So un-classy, not like me!’ direction.

choli · 02/12/2020 09:40

Can you tell the difference between a fake tan and a real tan? How
It's the orange tint.

Iamthewombat · 02/12/2020 09:54

Not all fake tans are orange. I bet if you were asked to distinguish a fake tan from a real tan, you couldn’t. Be less snobbish.

You would lose your bet. I can always tell.
Janegrey333 · 02/12/2020 10:35

Fake tans, bejewelled claw like talons, hair extensions, thick brows, fake upper lashes like an awning, bare legs, pumped up lips, overly tight clothes, cleavage on permanent display...adds up to a bad look. Always.

That’s a classic which some people think is oh so correct. Would one say:

“It surprised I.” No?
Then it is incorrect to say:
“It surprised my daughter and I.”

I could very easily, no real tan is bright orange. Not that anyone who cares about their skin would have a real tan anyway.

  • “It surprised I.” No? *Then it is incorrect to say :It surprised my daughter and I.”

I always get confused by this. I would say my daughter & I were surprised as opposed to the above, is that wrong? i would also say my daughter & I went to the shop.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 02/12/2020 10:53

@gingingerbread

There is a mum at my dc's school, who always has ironed clothes, smart coat, pristine hair and make up. But she looks so overdone, and the effort she has made is obvious. She always wears heels. I wear a long puffa coat, leggings, trainers, oversized sweatshirt, and leopard cashmere scarf, sometimes a cashmere beanie. I'll admit my coat is not a cheaply supermarket puffa, leggings/sweatshirt combo is co-ordinated, and my hair is glossy, thick and wavy and my makeup is carefully applied, but imho I look better.
Judgemental much Confused she’s probably off to work.

No that would be correct. Smile

“My daughter and I” is the subject of your sentence so it is correct to say:
“My daughter and I went to the shop.”

However, you say:
“She offered a lift to my daughter and me.” because this time the phrase is the object of the sentence.

When clearly the correct way to say it is to insert 'myself' every time either 'I' or 'me' appears in any sentence, regardless of whether you are the subject or object, in classic 'That would be myself, Lord Sugar' fashion. Grin

no real tan is bright orange.

And not every fake tan is bright orange.

Anyone would think I represented the fake tan industry. I don’t! I’m not even that personally invested in defending the use of fake tan, I just dislike the sneery posts, with a tinge of envy, that always crop up whenever you get a thread like this.

VinylDetective · 02/12/2020 12:00

No envy here. I don’t want to look as if I’ve bathed in tea.

Iamthewombat · 02/12/2020 12:05

The green from the envy might moderate the colour!

(I am joking BTW so don’t take umbrage)

ZaraW · 02/12/2020 12:18

Is sun damaged skin classy?

Janegrey333 · 02/12/2020 12:26

Envy because someone has pretended to have a suntan? That’s a silly idea. It seems to be your attempt to put down other posters.

Puffalicious · 02/12/2020 12:30

like this thread & I really do strive to look classier (when I’m not in my tracksuit) but it’s kind of funny too .. like one of those old style etiquette books. Don’t speak too loud. Don’t speak too much. Stand straight. Don’t smile too wide. Don’t pick. Don’t stare. Don’t flaunt. Don’t interrupt. Cover knees & collar bones. Woman as ornament 🤣... yeah I know I’m getting carried away but let’s face it, being a woman is bloody hilarious

That's why I was Confused at ' Neutral facial expression '! Wtf?!

Can we all just be the version of the woman we want to be and be happy for each other? Disclaimer: this is the touchy-feely me here, she now and again deserts me when work colleague turns up with fishnets, heels, too tight skirt and low, low top to work with teenagers. She's lovely, but I do judge a little and think she just needs to be a little 'less', but then again she's happy.

withlotsoflove · 02/12/2020 12:39

Actually, fake tan contains a minuscule amount of sun protection... very small - but it’s something.
You aren’t correct @Janegrey333 some fake tans ( usually the more expensive ones, l will admit ) are very natural these days.
Applied properly they look just fine!

I was taught to remove the other person from the sentence and see if it makes sense, so.. My daughter and I were surprised = I was surprised = Correct That surprised my daughter and I = That surprised I = Wrong
Puffalicious · 02/12/2020 12:55

Well applied fake tan can look great. I'm not a tanner but a colleague in work is very classy, I think, and she's a subtle fake tanner. She has lovely, dark, shiny, wavy hair and wears little make-up, so maybe it's that. She also happens to be young and really, really beautiful- bitch!Grin ( I tell her all the time to stop being so fucking beautiful! Thankfully she's also a beautiful person).
