Anyone tried any alternatives to the L'Oreal Steampod?

I swear I read that there was a cheaper version of this that got excellent results on a thread on mumsnet but I can't for the life of me find it now or remember what the other option was called. Does anyone know what I'm talking about or know if any of the other steam straighteners on the market are just as good (or almost) for a lower price tag? I found this but I don't feel particularly enlightened after reading it. I basically got my hair permed to see if it would add volume and make it less greasy and it's done both but the curls don't really suit me so I'm trying to work out if I can straighten it and keep the volume and lack of greasyness.
