Steam straighteners - are they any good?

I did not know these even existed until recently but are they kinder to hair than normal straighteners and do you still need heat protection spray?

Any recommendations for a brand that is good pleae?

I’ve got the newest L’Oréal Steampod and I absolutely love it. I can get 7 days out of a blowdry and straighten with those. I haven’t quite mastered curling with them yet, but there’s time. I use a heat protectant anyway as my hair is a bit damaged and don’t want to risk it.

My hair is very thick and curly for reference, and down to my hips. Normally prone to frizz in humid weather but these seem to keep it nice and sleek and smooth.

I've got the steam pod too and they're great. They take a bit of time to heat up compared to ghd but kinder on hair

Thank you both, they seem to have some mixed reviews and are more expensive that I thought but I will look into it.

The original Steampod and version 2 are much cheaper but a bit more cumbersome. I have the latest version and they are much kinder than ceramic straighteners.

I have the steampod. I do like it and it does seem to cause much less damage to my hair than my old straighteners but it’s cumbersome.
Refilling the water is a faff, the wire gets tangled and it takes an age to heat up. I can’t for the life of me curl with it either which annoyed me as I was practically a pro at curling with my old ones!
I’d buy it again though. It’s nice that my hair doesn’t snap at the ends like it did before.
