LOL at 'people wearing them they always seem to be leaning over to the left ...'

so so true.

ScottishMummy · 22/10/2007 08:43

Astrophe · 22/10/2007 15:52

Ugg boots used to be the generic term in Australia for sheep skin lined / suede outer slipper type boots. People would wear tem 'round the house, to take out the bins or to very casual get togethers (movie and a take away with friends - that type of thing). Gradually people started wearing them out a bit more, but it was a kind of a joke - an 'I'm such a slob I'm wearing my ugg boots outside the house haha' type thing.

Then some wiley business man trademarked the name 'Ugg' and is making millions out of you people.

Go go google.com.au and search sheepskin boots. There are loads of brands of Ugg boots, not officially called Ugg boots thanks to said Wiley Business Man, which are so much cheaper, even after shipping.

Forgot to say, I hav a pair, LOVE'em, and I wear them around the house et, as described below.

luceymay · 23/10/2007 08:42

OK, question for those who have them (like them!) what is better the longer or shorter boot?

tasja · 23/10/2007 08:43

I've got the long one, love 'em!

bubblerock · 23/10/2007 09:00

My stock just arrived - I tried a pair on and they are soooo comfy, DH won't let me have a pair as they are 'for the shop' !!!

morningglory · 23/10/2007 09:09

Longer ones, no question.

DulwichDolly · 23/10/2007 10:12

lucymay, I would go for shorter if you have shorter legs... you would look a bit plumpy... but if you are a leggy girl by any means try the long ones...

ugg has launched a new model which is an ankle model... i am so trying them on!

polecat · 23/10/2007 10:41

It used to be that only bogans and westies wore Ugg boots. You wouldn't be caught dead in them. I have to say though they are perfect on a cold winters night watching a dvd and eating pizza.

ScottishMummy · 23/10/2007 16:17

polecat - whats a bogan - animal, mineral, fruit

Astrophe · 23/10/2007 20:30

A bogan is sort of a country hick, and a westie is someone from the western suburbs of sydney - roughly similar to a chav.

screaminghousewife · 23/10/2007 20:35

Urgh!!, really don't like them, I have an internal voice in my head whenever I see them that shouts (yob fashion) 'YETI'.

ScottishMummy · 23/10/2007 21:09

Thanks added to the SM vocabulary bogan - will use liberally, loosely, frequently

Nbg · 23/10/2007 21:12

bubblerock, shop? where? directions please

expatinscotland · 23/10/2007 21:14

they're fugly.

before i left Edinburgh, they were on the feet of EVERY single 'yah' co-ed, together with a denim miniskirt, dark tights and a paisley-patterned large scarf.

ScottishMummy · 23/10/2007 21:17

ugg = rank minging neddy furry wee monstrosities

BrightonNim · 23/10/2007 21:27

I wouldn't recommend UGGS, whether the real thing or any other brand, if you've got feet that 'over-pronate', 'low' or 'fallen arches' or any other ankle problem as they are absolutely terrible for foot & ankle support - I've seen lots of teenage, and not so teenage, girls shuffling around in them with their foot so over the inside edge of the sole than the inside of the boot is rubbing on the ground - fast ticket to foot and ankle pain, and even back pain! The UGG classics are worse for this, the 'ultras' have a hiking sole and are much more practical - but not so available in the UK (although recently saw them in Kurt Geiger). Get them in the states for $200 instead of £200 (such a rip off over here really)!

bubblerock · 23/10/2007 22:25

NBG - still in Blackpool, Cat me if you're ever up this way and pop in and see us

Nbg · 24/10/2007 13:43

I certainly will BR!

I didnt know whether you were talking about an online shop or ebay

BearMama · 25/10/2007 09:29

expatinscotland I am pmsl right now. Yes the Yah gals love them. I LOVE being warm over slinky and most days I resemble a pudgy ball of wool (esp now with my 18wk bump!)but I am put off UGG's by the amount of glam yahs stalking about in them. And the price
Dont mind that kind of boot tho. Ten years ago I found a fantastic brand new pair of Australian sheepskin boots in a charity shop and I'm still wearing them today (with several changes of insole since, of course)
