How long are your arms from armpit to wrist?

Random question I know!

I've always had problems with the length of sleeves on blouses, tops, jumpers etc. I'm not outrageously tall (just over 5'8") so would be interested to know if my arms are disproportionately long or whether perhaps most highstreet clothing is too short in the arm for lots of folk!?

Please humour me with your measurement in cm from armput to the crease on your wrist (mine are 53cm)

I thought your combined arm length was the same as your height? Like your wingspan is the same width as you are tall.

Bluntness100 · 20/11/2020 13:55

I can’t be arsed measuring but I’m the same height and habe the same issue. High street clothing is made for the average. You’re taller than average so of course short. I Imagine you’ve the same issue with trouser length. I do,

Swingometer · 20/11/2020 13:57

That would be about right for me @yeraindug but I have relatively narrow shoulders so perhaps my arms are just obnormally long??

About 21" so similar to yours OP. I'm 5'9 but used to be 5"10, so maybe yours are a bit longer for your height. I've always felt like I have gibbon arms and sleeves are usually too short.

I've found I can get longer sleeves at brands like superdry, hollister, american vintage etc as that kind of "look" often involves extra-long sleeves. Gap sometimes good too.

osprey24 · 20/11/2020 13:59

51cm I am 5ft 5 1/2 tall. I think I have long arms though, shop bought jumpers a bit on the short side, I add about 3cm to knitted jumpers.

Swingometer · 20/11/2020 14:00

I don't generally have a problem with trouser length because most jeans and trousers are available in a slightly longer length @bluntness100

Shame you can't buy blouses with an extra long arm

I'm 2 inches shorter than you and have issues with sleeves never being long enough either. Apart from my Karrimor jacket, the sleeves are so long on that I often don't need gloves in winter as I can hide my hands inside the sleeves.

I have a short inside leg though and a taller body so I always put it down to that. I need short trousers and long tops which were so hard to find at one point when all the midriff baring tops with long bootleg jeans were the in thing. It's a bit better now at least but I tend to stick to short sleeves or 3 quarter ones (to avoid the weird too-short long sleeve look which is definitely worse than 3 quarter) and I have a couple of trusty cardigans I can wear over them if my arms get cold.

yeraindug · 20/11/2020 14:00

Yeah that's a good point. Theoretically you could be really broad with very short arms and your wingspan could still match up. It wasn't a particularly scientific suggestion I must admit!

SciFiScream · 20/11/2020 14:02

I'm only 5'7 my arms are very long. I have a long body and long arms but quite short legs. My arms are longer than a friend's arm and she's 6'!

I have to either buy from shops that do tall ranges for women (and if it's a suit, cut about 6" off the trousers!) or buy mens wear.

I've just measured - longer than you!
55 cm.

PenguinsOnParade · 20/11/2020 14:04

Just measured and I think I'm around 51cm too. It's a lot harder than I realised to try and measure your own arm though. Blush

SciFiScream · 20/11/2020 14:05

It's a family trait for me. My Grandfather's arms almost reached his knees. When I'm standing straight with my arms by my side...let's just say it's quite easy for me to reach my knees (only 10cm away!)

We just kid around that we swung on the trees for longer than other families before evolving.

Swingometer · 20/11/2020 14:06

Ha ha yes @Penguinsonparade it's harder than you think to measure your own arm length!

OP posts:
SciFiScream · 20/11/2020 14:07

Oh and I have exceptionally broad shoulders too. Which doesn't help. Grin

WitsEnding · 20/11/2020 14:09

55cm with my arm out to the side at right angles. I’m slightly shorter than you and I’m bored of three-quarter sleeves.

It probably doesn5 help tha5 my upper arms are about 20cm around - sleeves are often a bit too narrow and a bit too short.

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 20/11/2020 14:09

5 foot 6 with 55cm arms. Always knew I was a gibbon Grin

ginghamtablecloths · 20/11/2020 14:13

Mine are 48cm/19 inches but then I'm a short arse of 5'1" and have the problem of sleeves brushing my knuckles.

Callybrid · 20/11/2020 14:14

5’9’’ and 54cm here. I have fingerless wrist warmer things I wear with everything to keep my poor exposed wrists warm!

I’ve tried men’s jumpers but they tend to be too big in the shoulder.

No problem with legs as mine are weirdly short - but that means I have trouble covering my middle with some brand’s tops..

I need someone to set up a long back/long arms shop!

Swingometer · 20/11/2020 14:14

@witsending I've just measured mine with my arm out at right angles to body and mine are nearer 60cm when I measure like that!!

Previously measurement was with arms down side of body

I guess we're all a bit abnormal in one way or another. Normality is overrated!

OP posts:
surreymum89 · 20/11/2020 14:22

I'm same height , if I measure with arms down by my side then around 49/50cm if I put them up then about 53/54cm, it's quite hard to do Grin

But no I have never had a problem with sleeve length !

MikeUniformMike · 20/11/2020 17:43

I'm nearly 5'4", rarely need to hem jeans, not petite.

Sleeves are often a tiny bit shorter than I'd like them to be. I'm quite broad shouldered.

goose1964 · 20/11/2020 19:59

I'm 5'7 and have proportionally long arms and legs. My body though is so short my blogs are just above my waist. I often be up buying men's jumpers and coats for arm length.

SciFiScream · 20/11/2020 23:10

Just had help to measure the arms up way...62cm. GrinGrinGrin
