Where can I buy beautifully soft and thick t-shirts like Roots

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 19/11/2020 12:47

My DC got presents of t-shirts made by a Canadian company named Roots and they are so soft, I've never felt a t-shirt like it. I can obviously order from them but the delivery charge is quite high and obviously the tax on the whole order is going to be quite large too, so I'm looking for an EU company that offers a similar quality.

TIA

Kids or Adult sizes?

BAM t shirts are lovely, but only adult sizes. They are based in Devon.

Thanks BikeRunSki, what do they feel like? I like the feel of cotton and have found bamboo fabric feels odd in comparison, floppy and slippery, but I guess that might depend on how they knit/weave it so BAM might be better. I was thinking of clothing for me, but my DC are old enough now to be in small adult clothing so it would work for them too.

Definitely not slippery! I know what you mean though, I have had that with some cheap bamboo underwear, maybe it’s to go with the quality of the yarn?

My BAM t shirts felt like soft cotton. They are thickish but clingy rather than baggy iyswim.

Thanks.

Uniqlo's Supima cotton t-shirts are very nice; soft, thick, colourfast and wash very well. All the colours of the rainbow (but I'm goth so all mine are black Grin)

Wow I was surprised to see Roots being mentioned on Mumsnet, I'm a Canadian living in the UK and miss it very much myself. The closest quality for nice thick kids t-shirts I have found are from John Lewis in their own brand. Uniqlo are pretty good too, their graphic print ones.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 19/11/2020 19:38

Thanks Bobbin, I buy quite a lot of Uniqlo stuff but I only bought a t-shirt once and hated the fit (it was a Marimekko one, and it was a bit too short and much, much too wide and boxy), but the supima ones might be a better fit so I'll try one.

LightOfAThousandStars the t-shirts were a gift to my DC from my Godmother who lives in Canada. My DD particularly has more or less lived in hers. Grin

Marimekko ones are weird! They look ridiculous on me in that shape.

Whatthebloodyell · 19/11/2020 20:31

I have a lovely soft long sleeved t shirt from monki.

Justtryingtobehelpful · 19/11/2020 20:36

Maybe try the Roots Factory Outlet instead of the regular Roots stores. Same quality but better price. Aim for the January sales and the savings might make up for the tax and shipping costs.
The kids clothes are better priced than the adult sales items.
You're right, they are great quality and last forever!
John Lewis is a good substitute....

I love Roots. Used to ski quite a bit in Canada and stocked up when we were there. (Not at all helpful, sorry)

Justtryingtobehelpful · 19/11/2020 20:44

Actually, I now remember the outlet stores stock the same items

www.roots.com/ca/en/sale/?psortb1=category-pos_Sale&cm_mmc=Linkshare--Canada--rewardStyle-_-QFGLnEolOWg

Focus on their Black Friday deals or End of Year sales

Justtryingtobehelpful · 19/11/2020 21:15

Delivery is 15 dollars which would be about £10 GBP. You'll easily make up that difference if you stick to the same items.
Tax is added in Canada but it's already included here so you'd be paying that anyhow.

SkinnyDragon · 19/11/2020 21:15

You can order online from Roots to UK. There is a flat rate shipping charge, I think it is $15 CAD...

SkinnyDragon · 19/11/2020 21:26

Sorry didn't read the post properly.

Bamboo T shirts can be lovely and thick it depends where you order from, BAM as mentioned upthread are good.

Supima cotton T shirts are soft, have you tried Lands End as they often have 40% off deals and the sale section is pretty good. John Lewis also do some nice Supima Ts.

I'd be shipping to Ireland, so there isn't a duty and tax included option. So VAT and duty will be added, plus I have to pay a €10 handling charge (plus VAT Hmm ).

Ah, Ireland have heavier VAT. Do you live on the border? Use someone else's address? Cheeky but possible.
