Hi,
I'm thinking about getting one of the kits, hopefully in the sale Grin

Are they any good?
Can anyone recommend a good kit to get?

I would take a look at Mylee ones, they do good quality starter sets and the gels are reasonably priced!

i bought the Bluesky one...it cam with lots of the other gubbins...base coats, some polish, wipes

there#s lots of youtube stuff about too to refine your technique and so far anythign else i have bought has been fine...I bought primer, hard gel and builder gel and quite a few Beetle gel polishes which are all good with the bluesky lamp, and I am still quids in compared to paying for my nails to be done! :o

I've got a mylee one. I find it really good, generally lasts 10 days, lots of colours, easy to use doesn't take me long. Coat me about £50 for a starter kit including 4 polishs and I've bought more polish about £6 each.

DON'T DO IT!

I got the Bluesky one too, and had a great time with it, right up until the weaker curing allowed the methyl acrylate of the gel to get into my skin and give me a huge allergic reaction. My fingers swelled like sausages and split horribly and I lost all my nails. Twice. I didn't realise what caused it the first time. Now I can't have dental crowns or white fillings as they're made from acrylate too.

The curing of the home lamps is too weak. You need salon-strength to set the acrylate immediately. Apparently allergy rates are skyrocketing.

Thanks everyone.

@OneMoreForExtra Shock omg!! That sounds awful and very painful! Hope you're ok now.

@OneMoreForExtra were you curing with an LED or UV lamp out of interest?

OneMoreForExtra · 20/11/2020 09:27

It was an LED one - no idea whether a UV one round have been better though

ferretface · 20/11/2020 10:00

@OneMoreForExtra yeah i'm not sure either, i know UV does cure resin really hard/quickly but obviously has its own risks if you're exposing your hands to it regularly. Sorry about the allergy, contact allergies are really annoying :(
