Can I make this supermarket coat look upmarket?

Hi, been on here ages but don't post very often. Seeking opinions on this coat from Asda please and whether to keep or return it.
Now I like Arket clothes and that whole style of dressing. I've been after what I would describe as an urban padded coat to wear round town, as opposed to something rural from Jack Wolfskin or the like. Have to say here that I don't need any coats or jackets at all as I have loads of good ones, they are my weakness.
Anyhow, I've been coveting this Arket coat in beige, it's just what I was looking for. Can't really justify or afford to spend £225 when I have so many coats already. I popped into Asda today for some milk and came out with this khaki padded coat which looks very similar to the Arket one (in my opinion). It's well made, long, thick and warm and has nice details like the side poppers. I sized up to get the oversized look and I think it's a very good copy of the Arket one. Just what I wanted, I'm thrilled! So am I deluding myself or does it look like what it is, a £40 Asda coat? Looks far better in the flesh than in the photos by the way. I plan to style it similar to the Arket photo, with chunky boots and good trousers.

I don't think they look comparable to be honest. The Arket one definitely looks of the moment at least whereas the asda one doesn't, various things cheapen it but the colour for me is especially offputting, it looks dated and cheap in the pics. Maybe style it up and stick a photo on OP?

Up market clothes are made of good quality fabrics.... it looks cheap

God how snobby. The horribly over priced coat is nylon lined with polyester. Hardly expensive quality fabrics.

I wouldn't have spent £40 on a supermarket coat, even though I have my eye on a fitted quilted one in Tescos. On black Friday all the coats are half price. Smile

The Arket one looks like the models gone out wearing her sleeping bag, handy if it’s cold I guess! I prefer the Asda one!

SmileyClare · 19/11/2020 15:58

I don't like the Arket one either, it's the bulkiness. I'm getting a Hi I've come as The Hungry Caterpillar for World Book Day vibe.

GreatBritishBachOff · 19/11/2020 16:02

I really like both the ones MisiaMisia has linked and prefer them to the Arket and Asda ones. Out of the latter I prefer the Asda one as the Arket does look like a weird sleeping bag to me too.

BessieSurtees · 19/11/2020 16:10

The Hungry Caterpillar 🐛 has just got me 😂

Jeeperscreepers69 · 30/11/2020 18:03

If it looks like a 40 quid asda coat whats the problem?

Biscuitybiscuit · 30/11/2020 18:12

I prefer the Asda one, the arket coat looks very bulky and too long.

Whu020 · 30/11/2020 18:54

No it doesn't look the same but the asda one looks better!

VinylDetective · 30/11/2020 19:45

To be honest I think if you’ve seen one duvet coat you’ve seen them all. Apart from the Cos version of course, that’s a tad - unusual.

wingsanddreams · 30/11/2020 22:46

Try them on then decide, price doesn't mean anything. I have many expensive coats that I hardly wear due to various reasons. I have been wearing a H&M parka for three winters now, is so warm, comfortable and flattering. It really depends on the individual coat. Also depends on how you feel. I am easy going on brands. If you don't feel comfortable wearing a George and feel more confident in a Arket then go for it.

Girlinajumpsuit · 02/12/2020 19:30

I have the Arket coat and wear it all the time. Yes I look about 3x the size/like I'm wearing a sleeping bag but I find myself reaching for it over all my other coats
It's super warm but not sweaty at all which is a real plus for me! I bought last March in end of season sale for about £120 so worth holding out for if your budget cam stretch to that

Wafty · 07/12/2020 00:58

Well, that coat is now £25 on Asda's website Grin
Anyhow, I bought it for £40 instore and I love it. I styled it with straight, ankle length trousers and chunky boots (Fly London Beri in black) and I think it looks great. It's very warm and cosy and seems waterproof at present. Not worn it in a downpour yet. Only downside is the colour, which will soon show any marks.
In fact I love it so much I bought another one a size smaller for £25 in the sale, to wear styled differently, with skinny jeans and Dubarry knee boots! First one is XL, new one is Large. I'm size 16/18.
Thanks for all the other suggestions and comments!

@Thinkle
That Cos coat is gorgeous - you can definitely stay on S&B boards. You’re just ahead of the curve Grin

I bought this coat in store for £25 last week and was stopped TWICE today to ask where it was from. Thanks OP for the tip! It's lovely and warm with deep pockets too
