If you were invited to a black tie wedding...

My sister is (hopefully) getting married in September next year and they have decided the wedding will be black tie. The venue is a small country olde worldy hotel- think dark wood paneling, chandeliers, big open fireplaces etc

Easy enough for a bloke to do black tie but what about the ladies? What would a ‘black tie’ dress look like to you for your sister’s wedding? I’ve seen some gorgeous dresses but how much is too much?

N.B- no bridesmaids or anything like that, my sister is keeping it really small and intimate so I can choose whatever I want to wear which is great

How about this if I glammed it up with some bling?

Another vote for the red dress or the last one you posted, the green one, providing its not too low cut.

KateMAB · 14/11/2020 18:42

The red one is gorgeous

DepuisToujours · 14/11/2020 18:42

Yes, I also like the green one. That one or the red. You'll look great!

Love the green!!!

ArranBound · 14/11/2020 20:52

The red and green dresses are stunning. I think I'd struggle to choose between the two!

I would interpret black tie as full length.

ChateauMargaux · 14/11/2020 20:55

The red one.... just check with your sister in case she plans a red theme..

When I went to a very posh society wedding (the one and only I'll ever go to) I went to a specialist shop to buy a dress. I bought the most beautiful dress I'll ever wear there, it was expensive, but it had to be done. It might be worth you looking at that kind of shop.

Luckily I went to another wedding that year where totally different people were there, so I got to wear it again.

I’d suggest going vintage - ankle length cocktail in a brocade or shot silk-type fabric.

The red and green are lovely , could you get the green dress in a red colour ?

Movinghouseatlast · 15/11/2020 09:35

The first one is amazing!

Defiantly41 · 15/11/2020 09:37

The green is fab.

The rose gold whilst lovely, might stray into "I wish I was a bridesmaid " territory

If you can hold back, I suspect there will be loads of money off some very nice dresses just before Christmas/ in the January sales this year.

Got another option for you all, how about this? I can just imagine swishing elegantly around in this
