Help me look nice on Christmas Day

Beachlovingirl · 13/11/2020 08:08

Please help! I usually don’t get anything special or plan any outfit on Christmas Day but this year I would like to.

What are you planning to wear? What have you worn before that has worked well, and looked great? Alternatively, any Christmas outfits I should avoid? Any advice / direction appreciated Smile

I've just bought a nice winter white jumper and black leggings with a bit of sparkle. I wouldn't go with anything too restrictive - you want to be comfortable.
There was a fashion thing in the Christmas Good Housekeeping magazine (terrible title but good magazine) about pairing casual with luxurious - I quite fancied that look for Christmas, especially since we probably won't use our dressy clothes much this year.

Beachlovingirl · 13/11/2020 09:59

You are so right with being comfortable. I will no doubt be spending a lot of the time on the floor playing! Leggings are a good idea and a change from jeans. I have some leather leggings .... but then again leather can be unforgiving when eating lots of food which I will end up doing Grin

I will also check out that magazine article!

I have a velvet dress, but on the look out for something new. We're all going to wear bright colours this Christmas

Beachlovingirl · 13/11/2020 10:17

I like the idea of bright colours. I’ve even thought of Christmas jumpers but I think I’ll get too hot with the oven on all day etc.

I quite like that ochre colour that’s around but not sure as a blonde that’s a good idea lol. Maybe red?

We’ve always gone for comfort and relaxation on Christmas Day so it’s PJ’s here.

golddustwomen · 13/11/2020 10:27

I'm thinking black leggings and a nice peplum style top this year. Some nice ones on boohoo currently. Or tights and smock dress. Look nice yet super comfy and chocolate belly hiding!

BusterGonad · 13/11/2020 10:39

I'm tempted by a red checked/tartan dress I've seen. It looks so comfy. Could be paired with black tights so you can still sit on the floor, play with the kids and keep your modesty.

peaceanddove · 13/11/2020 13:05

Probably a dark bronze, glittery loose dress from Hush with black opaques and black suede ankle boots with a kitten heel.

Beachlovingirl · 13/11/2020 15:19

Thanks there are some great ideas here! The red checked dress I like the idea of, where is that from @BusterGonad?

@peaceanddove wow that sounds very nice!

@golddustwomen the smock dress is a good idea I am going to search for those

@Parker231 oh don’t worry it’s only for the morning and then the visiting and once that’s done pjs all the way too!

@MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously I went out and got the Christmas good housekeeping magazine! I’ve been poring over it all afternoon and there is a nice pair of trousers from next - perhaps not comfy but very nice Brora cardigan with a sequinned top. I like the cardigan I could wear that loads and there are leather joggers from hush that might be an amazing idea!

Do you think there will be any visitors or visiting this Christmas?

Beachlovingirl · 13/11/2020 15:30

We’re in Scotland so we can visit / have visitors as long as we stay outside. We already have a plan for this that includes patio heaters, a chiminea, spread out garden furniture and lots of outside fairy lights. Let’s just hope it doesn’t rain!

I'm wearing a t shirt style velvet dress

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 13/11/2020 21:46

Glad the magazine was helpful. I quite fancy a silky/satin skirt with a really soft jumper

sisqo · 13/11/2020 23:18

I have bought a sequin miniskirt which I will wear with a loose black jumper

gindinner · 14/11/2020 00:50

I've just bought glittery leggings from Sweaty Betty. Plus the matching glittery bra 😁 obviously I will be wearing a top. Just hope it's not itchy

Ooh lovely! I've pulled out a sequin pencil court I'd forgotten I had

Same here.

Christmas Day last year...

BusterGonad · 14/11/2020 02:47

It's this one. joanieclothing.com/flynn-tartan-frill-smock-dress.html
But they have quite a few to choose from. They've actually got a nive one with spots on too. The sizing is very accurate (look at size guide for each garment). And they are a uk company.

BusterGonad · 14/11/2020 02:52

Ignore me, there isn't a tartan and spotty one and the one I've linked I got the colour way wrong. It's navy with red checks. I think it looks very comfy and could be worn throughout autumn and winter. I just love it.

Houseplantmad · 14/11/2020 09:35

I've bought a full on sequinned tea dress which I'll wear with my slippers most of the day but with white trainers if we go for a walk. It's from M and S and is very flattering, uplifting and, even better, 30% off at the moment. After late lunch I'll probably crawl into something soft and very stretchy.

I've got my eye on these too!
DelphiniumBlue · 15/11/2020 17:05

If I was younger and slimmer I'd wear this glittery mini skirt www.hush-uk.com/ines-ruched-mini-skirt-black-multi-glitter/001078-2980.html
As it is, I'll probably wear this V neck loose short dress, also glittery

WirKindervomBahnhofZoo · 15/11/2020 17:37

Is it just me but by the time I've finished cooking Xmas dinner I'm a hot sweaty mess with stains/ splash marks all over me?

DragonflyInn · 15/11/2020 18:14

Great thread! Am cheering myself up from a little lockdown slump with the thought of splashing out on something new for Christmas Day. Don’t even care if we can’t see anyone else - my lovely kids will appreciate the effort and I’ll be making myself happy! Torn between a tartan dress and sequin skirt at the moment! Thanks for the inspiration everyone.
