I’ve just done mine.
Lets just say I’m going to be pleased when the professionals reopen... BlushGrin

I have a curly mullet with a fringe that I cut too short.

I’ll just let that sink in.

Oh no!

I was going for something vaguely like this:

Unfortunately I have extremely thick hair with waves, no straighteners, only kitchen scissors and a tiny mirror....

I cut my 18 year old DS hair this evening, he asked me to but I'm no hairdressers 😳

MushMonster · 11/11/2020 22:47

I cut my own hair this year, including fringe, then my husband cut the back of mine later on and me trimmed fringe. I have now grown the fringe and I want the back chopped again, so this weekend my husband will be cutting it again.
I do my daughter's, which I have trimmed once so far because she does not like cutting it.
My DH cuts his own and I tidy the back and sideburns. Sometimes I cut it for him.

We will go in mass to the hairdressers when this is passed!
The pictures will be something to look and laugh when this is over Grin
Your hair looks great by the way! Great job

If only!
Those gorgeous photos are the look I was going for.
Not what I achieved Blush
I may put a photo up of what I’ve done tomorrow...

I cut my own hair and I'm quite proficient but tried a new method a few months ago and fucked up, now I have a short chunk at the front.

I have to say your picture inspiration was far too ambitious for a home haircut. You need to go for a basic trim with layers if you're being fancy.

Definitely agree.

Ah, I have quite a few times!
Always turns out well but my hair is so thick it’s hard to brush through and I like wearing lots of necklaces but like the length so really fancied a cut where it’s short at the back but still long at the front.

That is an ambitious cut OP, quite technical.

I did at the weekend, Wine in hand and it turned out pretty great. Very easy to follow. I took about 4 inches off and my hair looks so much fuller and less straggly.

Will post a photo.

Ooh nice! Did you do the back like she did? I think she cuts everything at the side iyswim, so wondered if the back would be straight?

QuentinQuarantino · 12/11/2020 09:32

The back came out pretty straight and then DP inspected and held up any longer bits for me to chop. I've washed it a few times since and styled it straight so that I can see any wonky bits and tidy them up but it's been minimal.

The bit where she lifts the side sections up and forwards to cut out the weight was revelatory to me. I had lots of bulk there that didn't look quite right. That technique really helped lighten those sections.

BloomedAgain · 12/11/2020 09:36

The back is where I've slipped up before so that intrigued me. Sounds like a good way to get the basic shape.

floofycroissant · 12/11/2020 09:55

I keep trimming my fringe, it's gradually getting wider and wider. I fear I'll have a bowl cut by 2021.

wheresmymojo · 12/11/2020 10:01

Yep.

Into a long bob, first go was a disaster.

I have curly/wavy hair and it was wedge shaped and very 'toadstool' like Confused

So I went onto YouTube and realised it was all about cutting into it to get some of the weight out and now it looks much better!

I may actually buy a pair of thinning scissors and stick to doing my own hair at home TBH.

It is easier if you have wavy or curly hair though as it doesn't need to be as good a cut IMO because your waves/curls dry differently each time so any mistakes aren't easy to spot

CrochetToTheMoon · 12/11/2020 11:44

Meeeeee, again!

Was growing out a pixie which was a total mullet. Shaved it off in June so it was back to mullet stage, two weeks ago I grabbed the clippers and I now have a pixie with an undercut on one side and a shorter shaved section on the other, mainly because I put the wrong guard on and had to “fix” it hah!

goldenharvest · 12/11/2020 14:49

I really don't think you can successfully cut your own hair.

gindinner · 12/11/2020 19:24

I dare to do this. Luckily my hair is long and wavy so looks ok is has it grows, at least it looks better than a haircut I inflict on myself

gindinner · 12/11/2020 19:24

I dare not do this...

MadisonAvenue · 13/11/2020 14:33

I’ve got a hair appointment for the 5th and I want about 5” cutting off for a shoulder length bob, long hair is driving me crazy, so if salons don’t reopen I’m really going to have to give this a try. Or get my husband to do it.

Vinorosso74 · 13/11/2020 14:40

No way for me. I can do DP's hair ok with the clippers and DD has had some almost ok trims.
I was close during the last lockdown as my last cut had been November but decided not to risk it!
