Should I return these boots or will they break in?

Just hoping for some experiences of breaking in leather boots.

Just had these delivered this morning and ADORE them, the feet part fits so well (I have a slight bunion so this is amazing) and they are so comfy.

But at the top, all the open gape is at the front, and the back hits into my calf. I can’t actually stand up straight in them without needing to bend my knees slightly. If I try to walk properly I feel I’ll almost snap the back of the boot.

I’m hoping someone will say that the leather will soften as I love the boots and took ages to decide on them.

But I can’t afford to risk wearing them in to the point of no return, if they’re still not going to be comfortable. Or if they look all misshapen by the time the back loosens enough.

So I’m turning to Mumsnet to help with my decision. Any words of wisdom?

Should I return these boots or will they break in?

I'm late middle aged, I no longer keep shoes that don't feel comfortable from the initial wear. There are too many good quality shoes that are comfortable from the first wear for me to bother. That being said, if your heart is set on these then persevere!

Thank you @dudsville. You are probably right. I don’t find it easy to get boots that fit though, either they are too tight on the toes or too baggy around the leg.

Actually I bought a pair of expensive boots several years ago and went through a similar thought process - years later they are too expensive to get rid and too uncomfortable to wear Smile. I should really learn my lesson from that!

I would expect they'll soften if you break then in. You might need to walk heel first, IYKWIM, initially.

Are they Barbour?

Thanks, I’ve been walking about the house knee-first like Mr Soft (for those who remember that ad!) but actually rocking on the heel works too. They’re Barbour Garda boots. So beautiful.
