Boy mama sweatshirt suggestions ?

EgSk · 10/11/2020 15:14

I’m looking for a boy mama sweatshirt or long sleeve top ( could say anything along the lines of boy mama)! Any recommendations? I want something slightly nicer quality if there is anything out there . I love soft materials and an oversized fit !

OP posts:

@FamilyOfAliens

Need I get started on football shirts?! Why does a stranger need to know you support Manchester United?

@LittleRa are you seriously unaware of the reason why football supporters wear their team’s shirts?

I could say “are people on this thread seriously unaware of the reasons why someone would want to wear a Boy Mama T-shirt?”

Because they want to, is enough of a reason. Because they like it. Because they’re proud of their son. Because they want to advertise the fact they have a son (so what?).

A quick search of the OP’s posting history shows she gave birth to her boy within the past couple of days and lost a lot of blood.

I’ve got no skin in this game, like I said I wouldn’t particularly wear one myself, so I’m going to bow out bow but I just thought it was so rude and unnecessary people calling the OP’s personal clothing choice weird, tacky and stating how they’d never wear it.

OP, congratulations on your new baby, I hope you find a really lovely comfortable buttery soft sweater to wear proudly.

FamilyOfAliens · 11/11/2020 08:36

That’s sad, but hardly relevant.

@FamilyOfAliens

A quick search of the OP’s posting history shows she gave birth to her boy within the past couple of days and lost a lot of blood.

That’s sad, but hardly relevant.

It’s relevant in the fact that OP might be feeling immensely proud of herself, her body and her boy, feeling like a warrior after giving birth, hence her wish for a positive, affirming piece of clothing related to that.

If you think it’s “hardly relevant”, well it’s also “hardly relevant” what other posters would choose to wear, as no one asked them if they’d like to wear a Boy Mama T-shirt/sweater.

Ok, really am going now.

LaceyBetty · 11/11/2020 08:43

OP asked where to get one, not what everyone thinks of them. Some seriously harsh replies.

orangejuicer · 11/11/2020 08:44

I think wear what you like OP. Hope you find something you like.

FamilyOfAliens · 11/11/2020 08:49

Maybe she feels all those things. However, she didn’t share any of that information on this thread, so it’s just conjecture in your part.

Twilightstarbright · 11/11/2020 08:50

Why is everyone being so rude to the OP? It's not a criminal offence to wear one. It's like the people who sneer at Christmas Eve Boxes- if you don't like them just don't do them.

@EgSk have you had a look on Etsy?

excelledyourself · 11/11/2020 09:08

And to think there was a thread on here recently saying S&B is the friendliest forum.

Posters on here should be ashamed. Her question was completely harmless. Can't believe people took the time out to ridicule her for her choice of clothing.

Congratulations on your baby, OP.

ShirleyPhallus · 11/11/2020 10:08

Indeed. I think you scared the posters that were after a thread on yet another boring Boden striped top or a shapeless, baggy toast dress thread.

OverTheRubicon · 11/11/2020 10:16

I get why you want to share a mama top, but why 'boy'? If your baby is only a few days old, starting to focus on them being a boy or a girl is not necessarily helpful, it is so easy to fall into stereotypes and assumptions (he's a boy so of course he's fussy / she's a girl so she's delicate etc). You're a mum and that's wonderful and congratulations.

FamilyOfAliens · 11/11/2020 10:20

I don’t know why everyone is saying S&B is a friendly, supportive board.

If you post about a quirky but comfortable pair of shoes you like, it can be brutal, with posters saying their granny wouldn’t be seen dead in them.

I think if people feel that tops with slogans advertising your status as a parent are tacky, it should be ok to say so, even if that’s not what the OP asked. Threads often stray from the original question.

Jemma2907 · 11/11/2020 10:25

Please ignore all the judgement on this thread Op. Everyone should be able to wear whatever they like, its really strange how others care so much about what other people choose to wear!
There are a lot of shops that do these type of tshirts, a couple that I recommend for quality are Sophia and The Fox... and Birdies and Bearcubs. They don't have that specific wording on their websites from what I can see (they do Mamma, Mummy etc) but both companies do personalisation so you could just request that. I've ordered from both of these companies and love the products. I really hope you find what you're looking for and congratulation on the birth of your boy.

excelledyourself · 11/11/2020 10:33

@FamilyOfAliens try and justify it all you like. There was absolutely no need for it. Picking over her clothing choices, the adjectives she used? What did anybody gain from it? A laugh, and the knowledge that OP felt the need to leave her own thread about a sweatshirt? Well done.

2Kidsinatrenchcoat · 11/11/2020 10:34

‘The bee and the fox’ do this kind of thing, not sure if they’ve got a boy one specifically but lots of ‘mama’ type tops

user1493494961 · 11/11/2020 10:39

I agree with pp, very tacky.

I think if you deleted all the posts there was no need for, most threads would be pretty short.

LividLaughLurve · 11/11/2020 10:40

I had a long, ugly, rocky road to motherhood and finally gave birth as we went into lockdown.

I recently made a 3am purchase of a “Mama Est. 2020” sweatshirt from Etsy and exactly no fucks are given that it might raise some of your eyebrows.

I spent the first few weeks of his life wearing my “Sleigh the Patriarchy” Christmas sweatshirt, because it was comfy, even though it was March.

Janaih · 11/11/2020 10:44

Some posters seem to think every section is aibu Hmm

parttimepunk · 11/11/2020 10:46

@LividLaughLurve that sleigh the patriarchy sweatshirt sounds amazing. Where'd you get it?

OP congrats on your baby boy!

excelledyourself · 11/11/2020 10:52

Oh well, let's never mind peoples feelings then, as long as the threads are a decent length. FFS.

LividLaughLurve · 11/11/2020 10:55

@parttimepunk I think it was Spark Company online. All manner of feminist regalia Grin

parttimepunk · 11/11/2020 11:07

Thank you!

JaneJeffer · 11/11/2020 11:19

Yes people can wear what they like but if they post about it in S&B they're going to get an opinion which may not be what they wanted to hear!

Janaih · 11/11/2020 11:27

If someone asks if a pair of shoes are frumpy or is their dress too tight then it's fair game and a pile on is expected.
Someone asking where they can find a particular item, very rude and unnecessary to pass negative comments. Such threads are usually kind and helpful.

SockDrawer · 11/11/2020 11:30

What the fuck have a come back to?

This is not AIBU. Some posters have been vile.
