Don't get me wrong years and years ago I loved them but now I just find them so tacky.
They would be so much better without name badge stuck to them.
Is this just me?
Does anyone like them ?

Our schools must have was a Morgan bag.
No doubt our parents thought they were shit too

I'm afraid I find RI tacky full stop. Used to love it when I was early 20's but it's all a bit bling for me these days.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 11/11/2020 07:37

RI changed a lot - it is overpriced tat now. I don't like bags with loads of 'bits' on them and I don't like gold hardware. Tacky.
Every girl at my school had to have a Morgan or a Kookai bag.

SionnachRua · 11/11/2020 07:41

Some of the RI bags used to be understated but they've gone all out bling lately. But then I wonder...have the bags changed that much or is it just me aging and not being as on trend as I was (and I'm not that old!)? Grin

Miss Jane Norman, I used to love that shop.

YY to shirley's comment - what is it with all the weird bits of metal? I haven't seen anything nice in RI for years. Super tacky. Disappointing, as I remember them having some nice bits in there before.

Saladfingersscaresme · 11/11/2020 15:17

They are absolutely hideously cheap looking, clearly copying MK which are equally as hideous. I’m old enough to remember River Island selling buttery soft leather slouchy bags. I do like their Amelie jeans though.

Saladfingersscaresme · 11/11/2020 15:19

@ashbashclash flashback!!! Yes I did. What a memory you have.

W3dontdoduvets · 11/11/2020 15:20

I always think everything in RI is exactly the same as in primark but with 3x the mark up.

damnthatanxiety · 11/11/2020 16:02

@Spied

I see the tacky factor too. The shopping bags are the school bag of choice around here amongst the mean girl posse.
Louis Vuitton Neverfull's (real or fake) are the school bag of choice around here. Your mean girl posse would be laughed out of the school Grin

I don't like the fact that they all have gold rather than silver zips, buckles, connecting rings etc. I just don't do gold. I have a second-hand RI bag that has no metal on it at all and is real suede, but I think it must be from a few years ago, as I never see anything that simple and tasteful in there now. Having said that I would buy quite a few of their jumpers if I had a bigger clothes budget.

GodolphinHorne · 12/11/2020 13:34

Feeling old now. I had no idea that River Island had ever made nice bags...

The only time I’ve ever really noticed a ‘bag of choice’ amongst my contemporaries was as a student. All the posh girls had artisan woven carpet bags that they’d picked up on their gap year. You could barely cram one A4 folder in there, so they were always bulging open to the weather.
