Advice/YouTube recommendations for 45+ make up tips and techniques

I'm after a bit of help to update my make up please... all the face timing and Zoom calls have made me realise it needs an overhaul (still the same sort of look as decades ago!)

I prefer a less 'done' look, and avoid foundation as I find it ageing now, but it might be the ones I've tried. Struggling to make my eyes look nice though and my favourite lippy is discontinued (and probably too dark). My eyes WERE a really great feature but look a bit small and tired now, I wear a smudged brown liner and mascara.

I've got strawberry blonde/red hair, green eyes and pale skin. My skin is pretty good though, for my age.

Any advice please? Tips or tutorials I could watch? Big Thanks!

I like lisa Eldridge, she has different colouring to you but she explains her techniques really well.

I like Caroline Barnes's tutorials on youtube.

I'm also struggling with foundation not looking great anymore and have swapped to Erborian CC Cream and love it (they do a trial size tube, I ordered from Next for convenience).

I have green eyes, aubergine colours make them look greener, dark blue makes them look more yellow, like a tiger's. My lids are quite hooded now so I just tightline using a plum/navy eyeshadow.

Use a serum or gel foundation or none at all. If you have good skin maybe a good tinted moisturiser.

A good eyeshadow - Maybelline Tattoo are nice - also Stila Kitten. I also prefer to put eyeliner and mascara on eyes.

Blusher - always.

Lipgloss/lipstick - a cream or lip crayon maybe. Nars Dolce Vita very flattering.

I don't do You Tube tutorials (they annoy me!).

what was your old lippy by the way?

VanCleefArpels · 09/11/2020 17:19

Caroline Barnes definitely very accessible and age appropriate. There are lots of 40 plus American YouTubers but they tend to a very “done” look. On Instagram I like Ourlittlelives

I absolutely endorse the Erborian recommendation - it is so light but just evens everything out

Hot and Flashy is refreshingly honest about her skincare and makeup. She puts a LOT of work in to look that good though (she's in her 50s I think) and I just can't be arsed, but I've picked up lots of tips from her and she never looks overdone to me, just like a 'classy older woman'™️

Wayne Goss! He has several tutorials for over 40s and his looks are lovely and not as "done" as most YouTube MUAs

try Look Fabulous Forever, makeup and skincare for slightly older than you but still great tips especially for hooded eyes etc
