Do you style your hair or wash and go?

My hair grew really long during lockdown and I could leave it to air dry with a slight wave and it looked passable. I’ve had it cut now to a shoulder length bob and it looks so scruffy unless I straighten it or blow dry it and it’s slightly too short to tie up. I find it a pain!

Do most people style their hair every day to look presentable?

Yep sometimes. Not if it's cold though but only because it'd be too cold. But I have short hair which dries quickly and I have a towelling 'bonnet' which I just leave on after a shower while I'm getting ready, having breakfast etc then when I'm leaving I take it off and my hair is almost dry.

Blow dry then straighten (or occasionally curl). Its too frizzy to not use extra heat, but it's too thick to dry naturally.

Wash and go
Bit of curling cream scrunched in

I always try to wash mine in the evening. I put leave in conditioner on, comb through and then either leave to dry (Summer) or give a quick blast with the hairdryer so I don’t feel cold.

I also have long hair which for me is much easier to manage than shorter hair which I would need to style much more to look presentable.

i have very thin hair which i need to wash daily and blow dry to add volume!

For years (decades?) I styled my hair almost every day. But lockdown, and also seeing a lot of hairstylists on Instagram showing natural styling that works with your hair type, inspired me to ask my hairdresser for something different. I still have to (blow) dry a bit, but I just sort of encourage it into shape with my fingers, rather than spending ages with a styling brush and straighteners.

Mine lives in a permanent bun atm, so wash and go, maybe blast with hair dryer for 5 minutes. Haven't used my straighteners/curlers since March Blush.

Go where?

formerbabe · 08/11/2020 21:21

I couldn't even consider leaving my hair to dry naturally with no styling. It would be a huge frizzy mess as wide as my shoulders. I blow dry and straighten, takes forever and is the bane of my life. I only wash it twice a week because of this.

MiddlesexGirl · 08/11/2020 21:25

Wash and go. Long hair. Can't remember the last time it saw a hairdryer.
Got fed up with all the styling that short hair needs .... and still didn't look good half the time.

formerbabe · 08/11/2020 21:26

Oh and the rare occasions years ago when I didn't use a hair dryer, it would still be damp 12 hours later

I have really severe RA in my right arm so my poor hair gets a one handed wash and is lucky if it sees a brush after a shower! I'd love to tie it up myself (its the small things in life you miss)

VanGoghsDog · 08/11/2020 21:32

I have a bob and it needs to be blow dried. If I leave it, it's kinks agogo. And the back right sticks out weirdly.

In lockdown it grew too long, got bushy at the ends, and was impossible to blow dry and looked frizzy left to dry, plus taking forever. And I had to keep putting it up in a clip. I loathe the look of my hair up. I know this is easier than blow drying, but it looks horrible on me.

Despite having to blow dry it every couple of days I still had it cut back into shape as soon as I could.

As I’m WFH I’m currently in the wash and leave it to dry camp. But usually I’d blow dry it. I’m lucky I have fine straight hair which only takes 5 mins to dry.
