Anyone wear trousers to work and manages to cover their ankles?!

So why do women's trousers have to stop above the ankle only to be worn with brogues or pumps meaning our ankles are freezing?

It's ridiculous, I want to wear socks and boots and not freeze. Does anyone know where I can find some?

All I can find is this....

It's a fashion thing.

MrsTumbletap · 07/11/2020 12:49

A rubbish one. I don't want cold ankles!

There must be some women out there that have found a pair that go all the way down to the shoe?!

How tall are you?

I would say it’s a fashion thing. I’m in my early 20s and ankle grazers have been the default for at least 5 years. Can’t say my ankles have ever “frozen”

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 07/11/2020 12:57

I agree OP I hate getting cold (ankles or neck) I tend to move into tights with dresses or jeans with boots over winter. Sorry I know that doesn’t solve the trouser problem!

MrsGarethSouthgate · 07/11/2020 13:01

I have only been able to find some cheap ones at New Look:

HotPenguin · 07/11/2020 13:02

I have raynauds so there's no way I would dress like that in winter. Luckily I'm working from home, so I'm in cords and fluffy slipper boots!

throwaway10000 · 07/11/2020 13:02

I think the solution is fairly simple, just buy trousers in a longer length. Most decent retailers allow you to select a length, or have a tall range.

You maybe don't feel the cold the way many of us do. I dislike ankle grazers for that reason. When my feet and ankles are cold I can't concentrate, and all I can think about is how cold my feet are.
throwaway10000 · 07/11/2020 13:14

This pair is full length:

There’s also other colours and options on their website. If you do find styles that are “ankle grazer”, just buy a longer length.

NorthernNic · 07/11/2020 13:14

Longer trousers with a heel work but I can't wear heels these days so I'd really like to know what the answer is too.

fiorentina · 07/11/2020 13:16

I wear ankle grazers with longer boots or ankle boots that tuck just under the hem, as well as loafers. I don’t find my ankles get that cold particularly, I am reasonably tall but like not having hems getting wet and dirty so they work for me.

BackforGood · 07/11/2020 13:22

I just still wear my proper length trousers from the days before this chilly fashion came in.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 07/11/2020 13:33

I wear a lot of Uniqlo Leggings Trousers, like this and although they are only just below the ankle on the model they are always right down to my shoes on me.

LizzieMacQueen · 07/11/2020 13:35

Style the gap out with bright or bright stripey socks if you dare.

Boysarebackintown · 07/11/2020 13:40

Thanks for the link @BlackAmericanoNoSugar

I have this issue OP, I love to wear my trousers with brogues, but my ankles get really cold this time of year. So, I end up wearing tights and dresses rather than trousers if I am actually going out in real life !

haba · 07/11/2020 13:55

You just need to be 5'0"- they're all long enough then!
Even 7/8 trousers are down to my ankle bone.

travailtotravel · 07/11/2020 15:14

I wear tights under.

Shuddawuddacudda · 07/11/2020 16:31

I wear jogging bottoms/tracksuit bottoms, socks and trainers on commute. Change into pop socks and work wear when I get to work. Is your place of work not heated? Can you wear anything less formal?

Liverpoolarefab · 07/11/2020 16:49

Buy sock boots that are tight around the ankle and go under your trousers . That's what I do and has solved the problem ! I bought a couple of pairs of boots on ASOS.

Anjelika · 07/11/2020 16:52

Skin coloured pop socks?

LooseMooseHoose · 07/11/2020 16:54

The fourth photo in the OP is a pair of trousers that go past the model's ankles. She's just wearing them with strappy shoes. But some like that and wear with flat and black socks.

I wear chinos (from white stuff), roll down the double roll up by one and wear black socks. It looks fine, but I wear safety shoes all day, so looking stylish around my ankles is never going to happen.

thedevilinablackdress · 07/11/2020 17:01

Invest in some nice merino socks

maverickallthetime · 07/11/2020 17:01

@Shuddawuddacudda my work place is freezing- schools currently have windows open whatever the weather. I need thermal socks on and boots at all times at the moment!

MrsTumbletap · 08/11/2020 00:15

I am 5ft6 so usually get regular or long trousers, but they are always cut to be ankle grazers.

I have even tried searching for flared, and bell bottOm styles, it's really hard to find ones appropriate ones for work though.

I often have to walk from building to building several times a day and also stand on duty at break time, bus pick up etc and feel jealous of all the men with their long trousers, socks and shoes. And I'm there with stupid lady trousers and lady shoes with my pale freezing skin out.

@MrsGarethSouthgate Those new look ones still look like they would look strange with boots, am I wrong?
