Are shoe shops open ?

DS(12) had lost a bag containing a change of uniform and his school shoes (the go to school in PE kit on PE days, and take uniform seperately).
Very annoyingly, I will need to get him new school shoes this weekend if the bag hasn’t turned up. He has very long (size 8), but very narrow feet (Clark’s C width). When he gets new shoes, he usually has to try on several pairs of shoes to find a pair that fits. Unfortunately “his” shoes are now out of stock online, do we’re going to have to go to an actual shoe shop. Are actual shoe shops in England actuslly open?

A quick google indicates they will be shut.

Although they may not be on Clark's website you may get them online somewhere like Charles clinkard. Or send a note to school explaining that you cannot buy shoes during lockdown they may be sympathetic and allow non uniform

@Sooverthemill, I have emailed the school office and form tutor. In response they sent out a message to the whole school reminding everyone that appropriate school uniform needed to be worn, including proper shoes. They specifically said trainers only to be worn with PE kit on PE days!

I’m going to have to buy 5 or 6 pairs on line and try them for size.

I doubt your individual case warranted a whole school email / they probably haven't got round to replying to you and it was just a coincidental cross-email.

Your son has no school shoes - he has to wear a pair of shoes and the shops are shut.

You'll probably find a pair on line but will need to order several for fitting options.

I think their email is because people aren't adhering to the rules generally - not those with lost shoes!

And I would email them again for clarity

The HoY has emailed this morning to say that he will let the staff know why DS is wearing trainers and to keep an eye out for the missing bag. Fingers crossed, otherwise it’ll be a lot of online orders and returns.

@BikeRunSkii thought that would be the response from HOY. They do understand that sometimes needs must ( our school used to keep a cupboard full of black school shoes in all sizes and often we would give a pair to a child when we knew the parents couldn't afford a new pair). Hopefully they will turn up

@Sooverthemill, it’s hard work this Y7 business!! Not least for parents. 😀

@BikeRunSki yup! They are suddenly supposed to be so grown up and look after stuff aren't they? If only...

Wait till yr 8 - there's not much progress in independence Grin

I feel sorry for them - I feel like year 7 should be a separate year with half of the secondary stuff and still a bit primary?

I had countless panicked phonecalls with forgotten pe kit, glasses, homework...felt sorry for all my kids in year 7. They tried hard but just so much to remember.
