Hair dye - help!

Home hair colouring novice here...

So I normally have a mixture of blonde highlights and a colour (so i guess a low light) done by my hairdresser but obviously no appointments / now closing for lockdown.

My hair is long, the top section is now possibly 30% grey?! Natural colour is dark blonde. I have about an inch of root now. I desperately want to colour it to cover the grey...can I? What should I try? My mum suggested buying Loreal Recital in a blonde that matches my main hair colour, rubbing on the roots and leaving for longer and then pulling it through the rest of my hair but only leaving on for a shorter amount of time. Obviously the lengths of my hair have some bleach on from when they were highlighted. I am a bit scared to try but know I need to. Does anyone have any tips or advice? Thanks

Bumping for you because I'm in the same boat.

I routinely do this to save money between hair appointments - my hair is dark with some rose gold highlights, and I have very grey roots that show through every 3 weeks or so. I colour just the roots with a semi-permanent dye that matches my hair colour (I go lighter than the packet says as I always think home dyes come out darker) and don't pull it through the hair afterwards even. It blends in fine - no stripe! With a semi, you can rectify if you're not happy 😃
