Has anyone had an upper blepharoplasty and regretted it?

uppereyewobble · 02/11/2020 17:00

I am about to have an upper blepharoplasty on Wednesday (I think it's also known as an eye lift or upper eyelid surgery) and I'm having a major wobble (as my changed username says!) about the whole thing - am seriously considering backing out or at least postponing it.

If there's anyone who's had this procedure and regretted doing it would you be able to tell me why that was. My main concern is scarring and not looking like me. Added to that I bruise easily and I worry that I will look as though I've been in the boxing ring - and lost for several weeks to come!

I have found a very reputable surgeon but I'm just feeling very apprehensive about it all. Did anyone else feel the same?

And any tips to help a good recovery would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance Smile

I have known several people to have it done and mine is booked for 3 weeks time. I haven’t heard any negatives whereas other surgery such as lipo, rhino, ba’s etc I have. I’m scared too but it’s quick and only your eyelids and everyone says 10 days later you look so much fresher and awake but still themselves

uppereyewobble · 02/11/2020 17:13

Thanks Starbucksbasic123 that is what the logical part of me is telling myself but I've been too much googling!

I've wanted to do this for so long now, I'm trying to not back out.

Anybody else?

Sorry to bump this but it’s all getting rather soon! With hindsight I should’ve asked earlier.

Oh bless you, if you’ve wanted this for a long time then that’s telling you something. You’ve just got the fear!
Caroline Hiron’s has it done and posted a video.. said it changed her life for the better

Haworthia · 02/11/2020 22:06

I’d love to have this done. I’ve only just turned 40 but my eyelids are SO saggy (hereditary!). Keep this thread updated - I’d like to know more about the recovery... and the cost, tbh!

RuthTopp · 02/11/2020 22:07

I'd love to be in your position. I expect it's just nerves. Go for it , and let us know how you get on. Good luck.

ShowingOut · 03/11/2020 07:43

My mother had this done and I would like to too. She didn't look "different", just like the others say - rested and younger.

Good luck, let us know how it goes. At least you now have lockdown to recover in!

Bookaholic73 · 03/11/2020 07:45

I’d love to have this done. Can you share the experience of recovery (once done) and cost please?
Just keep in mind your reasons for booking it in the first place, and know that any surgery always comes with nerves.

TweeBree · 03/11/2020 07:57

Do you heal well from scarring?

A friend looked into having this done and the surgeon recommended a brow lift instead. They do small incisions in your hairline so no scarring on your eyelids.

uppereyewobble · 03/11/2020 07:59

Thanks for the replies and good wishes - am feeling more confident about it this morning. I will let you know how things go but in the meantime if anyone has any further advice / experiences please let me know!

My mum had this done and you can't see any scars. Though she did get an eye infection I think and the photos looked bad at the time.

But she does look good

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 03/11/2020 08:12

I had UPPER and lower done at 35. Looking into having it done again (47 now). Bruising only lasted a week. No pain at all.

drspouse · 03/11/2020 08:22

Thanks for this thread, I've been thinking of getting this done (mine would be NHS as it's impinging on my eyesight) but was apprehensive.

Blinkyblonkyblimey · 03/11/2020 09:06

I had this procedure (NHS - also for a medical problem) about ten years ago. The only downside post-op, was that I couldn’t rub my eyes for a few weeks, but that was all. I had no pain or even discomfort. There was some bruising and I was a bit swollen for a couple of weeks, but that’s was to be expected. Funnily enough, I was only looking at my eyelids yesterday and the scars have almost completely disappeared. I have absolutely no regrets.

JaceLancs · 03/11/2020 09:09

DF had it done on NHS as it was impinging on eyesight
Bruising was bad but worst was over in first week
He always did look younger than he was but it easily took 10 years more off him!

BrandoraPaithwaite · 03/11/2020 09:12

My BIL had it done because he eyelids were so low they were affecting him at work. It was great and added bonus it had a positive cosmetic effect too.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 03/11/2020 09:57

It's a very simple procedure so you should have nothing to worry about if you're having it done in the UK.

habibihabibi · 03/11/2020 10:03

Uncomfortable for few days, bruising was very colourful but it was not painful. Made such a difference.

CleverCatty · 03/11/2020 10:28

This is one of the few cosmetic procedures I'm thinking of - not sure if I need it - but it looks good.

and I am very very against cosmetic surgery otherwise.

trumpisaflump · 03/11/2020 11:59

I had this done two years ago and I'm so glad. My loose skin was sitting on my eyelashes and made me look so old and tired. It's a really simple process and is done under local anaesthetic. My scars were invisible from about day 10 as they are in my eye crease. My recovery wasn't great though as I bruised SO BADLY! I'm really fair skinned and bruise extremely easily though. My bruises were under my eyes as the bruising follows gravity. They lasted for six weeks.
If you are in England now it's the best time to be getting it done going into lockdown so no one will see you. However might be a good idea to get some cover up make up like Dermablend to cover bruises.

trumpisaflump · 03/11/2020 12:00

Oh and I should say my DH got this last year (after he saw how good mine looked) and he didn't bruise one bit. He was out for dinner with friends on day 8 post procedure and you really couldn't tell.

ShowingOut · 03/11/2020 12:03

So you're very very against cosmetic surgery, except for the procedure you want to have? Grin
KatharinaRosalie · 03/11/2020 12:20

Can't tell you what you asked, as have never regretted mine. Maybe only that I didn't have it done sooner. As other said, the change is not noticeable to other people, as nobody really looks that closely at you. Just that you look more fresh and awake.

I only had bruising for a couple of days really, as soon as the stitches were out, I could cover it with make up and go about my business as usual.

CleverCatty · 03/11/2020 12:24

ShowingOut - I don't believe or like Botox, fillers etc and a lot of the other procedures some I think are unnecessary. Plastic surgery also comes with an element of risk.

Family friend is plastic surgeon and he says vast majority of women don't need it but they do want it. He operates on the ones who want it within reason but says he has turned down women who want numerous plastic surgery procedures. A lot of surgeons aren't like him. He is lucky to a degree that he's nearing retirement age so has made his money so he says.

lindyloo57 · 03/11/2020 17:44

I would like to get this done, as i do have hooded eyes, anyone recommend a surgeon in norwich.
