Boden dress says it's Empire line

I'm pretty sure it isn't. That is all.

OP posts:
GlamGiraffe · 02/11/2020 14:46

It definitely isn't

Harmarsuperstar · 02/11/2020 14:47

No it's not at all

JuliaJohnston · 02/11/2020 14:47

You are totally correct.

LightDrizzle · 02/11/2020 14:48

You are right.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 02/11/2020 14:49

Definitely not.

ChessieFL · 02/11/2020 14:51

Empire line is where the ‘waistband’ is right up under your boobs isn’t it? To be fair as I am large of chest it probably would end up as empire line on me but not on the model they’re using!

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 02/11/2020 14:52

Nope it’s not. I teach fashion history. Empire line comes from Jane Austen times and is under the boobs

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 02/11/2020 14:52

🤣🤣🤣. I could get a job writing descriptions for Boden if that's the level of accuracy required!!

Bloody hell.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 02/11/2020 14:52

Totally not empire line. And as an aside, I hope empire line never ever makes a comeback!

eddiemairswife · 02/11/2020 14:54

I wonder what feature of the dress made them think it was Empire line.

DefinitelyPossiblyMaybe · 02/11/2020 14:56

Correct, this is Empire line....

This is NOT empire line

No it’s not an empire line dress. Clicked on the thread as I was hoping it would be. I am long of body and so anything with a pre- determined waist is invariably the wrong shape for me as the waist is nearly anways an inch or two above where my waist line is, throwing the whole line of the garment off. I really only suit empire line or a princess cut, so would love for it to come back in to fashion. Dont want to hijack the thread but if anyone knows of any shop/website which does empire line dresses I’d be delighted to be pointed in the right direction

serialreturner · 02/11/2020 15:16

Bollocks it is.

SlopesOff · 02/11/2020 15:22

No it isn't.

It is that weird current style with the 'waist' sneaking up to the armpits that is everywhere and looks bloody stupid, not to mention uncomfortable.

Someone who knows nothing decides to take a style and bugger it up but not name it correctly. Although with it being such an odd shape what could it be called?

The much hated Per Una had proper empire line dresses a while back. Maybe you could remove the label and alter it slightly and pretend it wasn't Per Una.

If I were you I would try Ebay as there is such a selection of stuff on there, old and new.

StillWeRise · 02/11/2020 16:53

it definitely isn't but now I want to know what 'proncess cut' is please?

StillWeRise · 02/11/2020 16:53

oops
princess cut

HasaDigaEebowai · 02/11/2020 16:56

Only if you have seriously droopy boobs

user1471522343 · 02/11/2020 21:34

Hi StillWeRise.

user1471522343 aka ‘droopy boobs’ here.

"Princess line" or "princess dress" describes a fitted dress cut in long panels without a horizontal join at the waist, using long seams ("princess seams") to create the shape of the garment.
It’s very flattering on my body type and very pert boobs.

Have no idea how to post a picture - sorry.

TryingnottobeWaynettaSlob · 02/11/2020 23:25

And that is why it’s in the sale...

Rosere · 02/11/2020 23:36

It sure isn't. DP do the odd empire line dress and they are affordable full price. And lovely (mostly).

TheOrigRights · 02/11/2020 23:38

I quite like it (empire line or not!), but I think I'd look shapeless in it, and they don't have my size.

OP posts:
notangelinajolie · 03/11/2020 00:00

Well I guess if you had big boobs it could be Empire Line.

ChasedByFox · 03/11/2020 00:51

And it's viscose...

Nandocushion · 03/11/2020 01:46

Every single Boden dress I've ever ordered has had a high/short waist, at least an inch above where it's supposed to be. I've had to send them back and complain that they weren't listed as having short waists and ask that they label their clothes better in future and tell us if the waist isn't in the usual spot. This dress isn't Empire waist, but it is definitely higher than a natural waist, so I can only assume this ridiculous description is my fault. Sorry.
