M&S bras getting smaller on the band?

JinglingHellsBells · 01/11/2020 12:43

Has anyone else found this?
I measure a 29 back and buy either a 30 band or sometimes a 32 depending on the brand.

I recently bought a couple of M&S bras and although they felt snug at first I thought they were ok and kept them.

I've now found that they are quite tight and when I measure the 32 backs with the 30s from other brands they are the same!

Yes, I’ve found that too & like you have worn them so can’t return.
They are also smaller than Asda ones of the same size
, 36GG, that I’ve started to buy instead. Quality just as good & fit much better at less than half the price.

JinglingHellsBells · 01/11/2020 12:51

Thanks am glad it's not just me.

I put the 32D M&S bra over the J Lewis 30DD, on the bed, and the band of the M&S 32 " one was smaller than the 30inch bra!

I used to find M&S really generous sized but now I think they are skimping.

I think it goes beyond the M&S brand per se. I’ve had to opt for different cup and band sizes in Marks’ bras; they originate from various factories and different countries of origin. There seems to be a lack of common quality standards across the board.

JinglingHellsBells · 01/11/2020 16:49

It's bizarre. I measure no more than 29.5 inches and yet some M&S bras I ordered online (I always order about 4 sizes) were incredibly tight in a 32 - could barely fasten them. A few years ago I bought their Rosie range and a 30D was fine- now a 32 is the same back size.

I think their quality control is just all over the place tbh. They seem to be very inconsistent

RandomMess · 01/11/2020 18:37

I measure 32 inches around my rib cage in M&S I need a 34 to get them done up Confused

JaceLancs · 01/11/2020 21:11

I’m a 36 band in M n S F or G cup
Bravissimo have me as a 34 F or G depending on brand and style

copperoliver · 01/11/2020 21:48

Yes I found this too I've gone up two sizes for comfort. X

JinglingHellsBells · 02/11/2020 08:44

The thing is, it's all changed.
Years ago I wore a 34 back and a B cup in M&S and realised this was all wrong as I was doing the 'measure and add 4 inches' lark.
Something's wrong if I measure 29.5 and buy a 32 and can barely get the thing fastened.

You've just reminded me I need to take a bra back to M&S before Weds - the second one I've bought where the band is over 2 inches shorter than every other 34F I've got from there. It makes it a whole different size!

I think this might be the last straw for me with M&S. The last thing I want to be doing right now is trying on a load of bras in a changing room. The least they can do is maintain some consistency in their sizing, even if the bras themselves are increasingly frumpy and nylony.

MidnightFlit · 02/11/2020 11:38

Also, it must be costing them a fortune in returns/restocking etc. I think the staff know it too, because when I bought this bra last week, the assistant said, 'I'll leave the hanger in the bag in case you need to bring it back if it doesn't fit.' Every other time I've bought lingerie from M&S they take it all off the hangers and fold it up in the bag.

motherofawhirlwind · 02/11/2020 11:45

Having the same issue with trying to fit DD.... Measures 29.5, have so far tried 32 and 34 (M&S fit guide said 32) and they're still too tight and cutting in!

And the difference between 2 styles in the same size but in terms of cup volume is huge!

TheFairyGarden · 02/11/2020 12:01

Yes. Me and DD have just returned bras to M&S. we bought our usual sizes and only one (out of 4) will do up. M&S have gone downhill recently

JinglingHellsBells · 02/11/2020 15:57

I've measured my collection of M&S bras.

FWIW the 30" bands of some (from a few years ago) measure more than the latest delivery of 32 bands.

Some 30 bands measure 23/24" unstretched, some 32 bands measure the same.

Some 32 bands measure 25 inches (they are the comfortable ones.)

Even allowing for the stretch factor, there is around a 2 inch difference in bands of the same size.

I used to be able to fasten a 32 band on the tightest hook, now I am struggling to fasten it on the loosest hook and it's not who's changed size.

I've just been to M&S and been told I measure a 32 so I have to get a 36. Apparently m&s make their own bras and size them differently which makes absolutely no sense. I didn't even get as far as cup size because my head just wouldn't compute!

Bagelsandbrie · 23/02/2022 08:19

Yes I’ve found the same. I’m a 30/32GG and have to buy a 34 in m and S.

Fizbosshoes · 23/02/2022 08:22

I've worn 32A for ages (usually M and S) but last year I tried a 30B which seemed to fit better and the straps didn't fall down every 5 min. Ordered some more (cheaper) styles in 30B and they were uncomfortably small.

HappydaysArehere · 23/02/2022 08:28

Oh! For the long ago days when M&S clothes were all made in the UK. The sizes were standard. So much so that you couldn’t even try clothes on in the store - no changing rooms but easy to return. If you went anywhere and was asked what size you took you could say “I am a M&S 14”. So that was a useful comparison. I will need some new bras soon so thank you for the info. I only buy cotton underclothes so have usually bought them from M&S.

Appleseesaw · 23/02/2022 12:50

I’ve always found the bras from M&S to be uncomfortably tight. At the time, I measured 28 and a 32 was far too tight.

RestingMurderousFace · 23/02/2022 13:13

Wore a new M&S Rosie bra yesterday, by 4.30pm I was braless and the bra was in the bin. It claimed to be 32E but band and cup seemed to be at least one size smaller.

So frustrating!

Darklane · 23/02/2022 17:07

Yes, I’ve found the same & have also begun to buy the Asda ones like a previous poster, same quality & cheaper, better fit. I too coincidentally take 36GG.
For the M& S one that I can’t return I’ve bought some of the bra extenders from Amazon.
You can get them in virtually any colour, these are just an example
extender

DetailMouse · 23/02/2022 17:11

I measure 30 but have been wearing 32, knowing it's not right but it is comfy.

With my last purchase I ordered the 30E and 32D. Honestly, I couldn't make the 30 even touch let alone do up and yet the 32 still felt a little big.

Memyselfandfood · 23/02/2022 17:48

Yep refused to buy from there. Im a 34dd/e but wear a 36e for a bit more room, yet could not even get their 34ee round me and the cups where too small!!
