How can I stop my curls falling out!

Getting ready to go out 'out' I spend ages using curling tongs or straighteners to curl my hair.
They look great. I use hair spray but by the time I've got to a pub/ restaurant/ where ever. The curls are completely dropped.
How can I keep them in and make them last?

I not believe no one has got any tips to stop my hair going from bouncy to meh in half an hour!

Have you tried pinning the curls with kirbie grips after you've styled them with the tong/straightener? This should 'set' them and let them last longer.

Dirty hair. As in, don't wash it for 24 hours before you curl.
Pin curls up so they can set. Use a curler, not straighteners.
Products in hair after you've washed it such as mousse. Oh and a light spritz of hair spray before you curl too.

My hair is naturally very straight and if I want my curls to stay in I have to do the above. Oh and keep my hair no longer than shoulder length

Use conditioner before curling your hair so it is moisturised for curling. I recommend using a gel based hair spray as I found that they hold much better than the aerosol ones.

Straighteners to curl not curlers. Holds much better.
