Mid calf boots - tan or grey? How to style? Photos inc.

I’m looking at updating my wardrobe for the autumn/winter and am looking for some style advice. I need a pair of comfortable to walk in boots that I could wear with jeans/leggings.

I’ve found these in either tan or grey - I really like this type of sole/heel. Firstly, are these nice boots?! Which is better, the tan or grey.

I usually wear dark rinse or black jeans or leggings. Which colour boot would go best? How else could they be styled?

I’m mid 30s, 5ft3 and a size 12. I’m mainly looking for ideas for the school run, walks, shopping rather than for the office. I’m pretty hopeless and usually wear the same thing everyday. Thanks!

Loads of nicer boots than this out at the moment. Are you choosing these purely based on comfort.?

theclockticksslowly · 29/10/2020 02:00

Well not just comfort - I’m pretty clueless when it comes to what looks good together and am stuck in a bit of a rut of jeans over ankle boots.

That type of heel/sole is something I do like - and I don’t want anything too chunky/heavy.

Have you looked on pinterest for style inspiration? You might get some ideas from there.

Have a look at schuh, office, tkmaxx and debenhams.

Gosh they’re not nice

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 29/10/2020 02:31

I really like them! If I had to choose I think I'd go for the tan. But then again I also really like them in grey.

I also don't give a flying fuck if things are in fashion or not. I dress for me.

Sasuma · 29/10/2020 02:58

Personally I really don’t like them, and think there are so many nicer boots out there. What is it you like about them? What sort of outfits do you want to wear them with? You say jeans - what cut?

If you want something vaguely stylish or fashionable these probably aren’t it. On the other hand, obviously if you love them, then that’s what matters.

They’re ok for going on walks and look comfortable but not keen otherwise.

Monty27 · 29/10/2020 03:05

I wouldn't want those boots but if I were to choose between a grey or tan in a boot I liked it would be tan all the way 👍

JMAngel1 · 29/10/2020 05:36

I think the grey?
You could wear them more easily with tights.
Could wear them with midi skirts and wide leg cropped trousers/jeeans too.
Tbh if you want to be more stylish, check out lace up combat style boots instead?

theclockticksslowly · 29/10/2020 08:57

Thanks for the comments so far - not an overly positive response to them! Grin Told you I was clueless.

I’m really looking for a comfortable look for everyday out and about - I walk a lot and want something that’s good for cold wet weather. I’m really stuck in jeans over ankle boots and rarely wear anything different. I thought skinny jeans in boots might be a fairly non radical (for me!) step to change things up a bit.

I don’t particularly love the style of these ones - just like that type of sole and find it comfortable to walk in.

I’ve seen a pair of dr martens brown knee high boots (zip up not laces) I like but how would you style those? Is knee high better than calf? I see calf as being a bit more casual.

There’s loads of chunky ankle boots around that look good with straight leg jeans and a bit more modern than skinnies tucked into boots which can look a bit 00s. There are lots of lace up boots, Dr Martens style, and chunky Chelsea boots. Also lots of stylish hiker boot styles. Should still be comfortable to walk around in. Would that sort of thing work?

Or if the calf/knee length is preferred, you could share a link of the other ones you’ve got an eye on?

theclockticksslowly · 29/10/2020 11:52

I quite like the hiker boot/walking boot - how should jeans be worn with that? As they’re just a little taller than ankle boots could jeans be tucked in? I think my legs would look even shorter/cut off if I were to roll the jeans to be above them.
