Collagen supplements - recommendations?

BrimfulOfBaba · 28/10/2020 12:03

Has anyone taken collagen supplements with an overall aim of improving (or delaying) skin sagging, or boosting skin quality?

Just wondering if there are any recommendations. Also interested if anyone has seen results in improving/delaying cellulite, and better joint mobility.

I've taken Skinaid on the recommendation of a few dermatologists/clinics. They're expensive though and also contain artificial sweeteners that I'm not supposed to be having on the advice of my doctor so I'd be interested in alternative recommendations.

How long have you been taking it @iwanttolookbetter? Have you noticed any difference? Women's Health have a list of recommendations here which might be helpful, but hopeful for some reviews from real life people!

On and off for a few years Brimful but I've been trying all sorts of cosmetic procedures in that time so it's very hard to know what difference it's making! I had originally enquired at a clinic and the owner told me there was no evidence they worked so they didn't stock them but when I went back a year or so later they were on display and when I inquired again I was told there'd been a study which suggested that they were beneficial, although I think it was a small one. So not much back then but that was a few years ago. I went to a very expensive London place for something else a year or so later and the expert doctor recommended them and said she takes them so I've continued on that basis but I'm the first to admit I don't know if there's that much evidence yet.

I've been taking Swedish Nutra liquid collagen for a few months now. It doesn't taste bad and I've noticed an improvement in my skin and a reduction in joint pain. I have arthritis in my knees and ongoing SPD after pregnancy. I'm almost 40 so worried about this getting worse as I get older.

BrimfulOfBaba · 28/10/2020 13:56

That sounds promising, @thesheerrelief, is it the peptide one or the marine one?

It sounds like you are already being proactive about this.

It's this one. Saying it has an "amazing berry taste" is optimistic Grin but it's pretty pleasant. I ran out for two weeks and did notice a difference - joints stiffer and more painful. I've had some compliments on my skin lately which is new!

I take Absolute Collagen and have done for around 6 months. I mainly started taking it to help my joints/tendons as I was getting an increasing number of small injuries in the gym now I'm 50.

I'm not sure I'm entirely convinced it helps but Absolute Collagen gets rave reviews from lots of people.

I'm also taking Absolute Collagen. I've been taking it for nearly 5 months. Every week I take a photo of my face to see if I can see any difference. And I think I can see a difference so I'm going to carry on with it. I started taking it with the view that it'll take 6 months before I see a difference so I committed to taking it for that long. It's quite expensive but for the time being I'm going to carry on with it.

inisfree · 28/10/2020 18:59

I took Revive Beauty for a few months. I definitely saw an improvement but it's very expensive!

BrimfulOfBaba · 29/10/2020 07:56

The price is intimidating but taking photos of myself to see if it makes a difference is a good idea!

I take Absolute Collagen, I do lots of other things too; Retin A and microcurrent so not sure what I can attribute to what but skin is good.

HasaDigaEebowai · 29/10/2020 09:51

Ive just been looking and there are lots of options other than absolute collagen which actually contain higher doses and are a fraction of the price. I might give it a shot
