Boring brown hair - pix - help!

My hair is browwwwwwwwwn
It is so dull

Too dark to dye without peroxide I think
But
Not dark enough to be interesting really

It is basically the colour of somebody who has given up. No pretty highlights like I had when younger! Gone! I never realised hair gets darker as you age?

If I put a rinse through it like maybe a red one, would it take?

I’ve got a heavy fringe and my hair is somewhat wavy and reaches my lower back. Eyebrows are naturally v dark.

Any advice? I’m totally fed up with it, it just sits there.

I’m 47 and no great yet which I am grateful for and don’t want to mess about with it too much before I have to!

What can I do with it, oh vipers?

You do have AMAZING hair.
Try wearing colours that contrast with it - black just 'absorbs' it.

I bet an emerald green, deep bright red or clean crisp white would really show it off

TheCuntOfTheLitter · 26/10/2020 18:38

Gosh.

I’m a bit teary at all your kind responses. And shocked to be honest.

My hair really gets me down, it used to be so bouncy and thick. It’s v lank, maybe it just looks better than IRL in the pic.

@burglarbettybaby yy,
Lowlights, maybe that’s the answer!

@SunshineCake And @IHaveBrilloHair
Thanks, will try those ideas

Does anybody have any ideas for shampoo that might be thickening or bouncy making ? That is also my problem

And I need to cut it but can’t face the hairdressers yet so I guess that would help

Anyway thanks I feel much better

(Still wish I were blonde)

You are a BEAUTIFUL-tressed silly wally 😁 Do nothing to it; it's stunning, and still looks v bouncy and thick!

NeedToKnow101 · 26/10/2020 18:48

Agree with everyone else, your hair is a-mazing.

BoulangerieBabs · 26/10/2020 20:27

If your hair is lank and lack lustre then I'd look at your haircare regime before deciding to do anything random to your hair.

You have gorgeous hair, brown is not boring, embrace it.

Bamboo15 · 26/10/2020 20:43

Wow great hair! I would t change a thing, but if you wanted a chance maybe a subtle balayage?

pipnchops · 26/10/2020 20:45

Wow I love your hair!

Riv12345 · 26/10/2020 21:26

Honestly op your hair looks lovely
Also looks shiny and good condition

It's lovely I wouldn't change a thing

Janegrey333 · 26/10/2020 21:57

Your hair is gorgeous. Smile

Janegrey333 · 26/10/2020 21:59

Do not tamper with it!!

10questions · 26/10/2020 22:00

Fabulous hair. Good advert for going all over brown which I have never had the courage to do (had highlights and roots for years which are cracking me up.) Leave it!

flunch · 26/10/2020 23:25

Wow your hair is amazing I'd kill for hair like that! Its lovely and shiny and thick, you don't need to do anything. If you fancy a change im sure some subtle dark gold highlights would be lovely (as it looks like you have some natural gold highlights anyway)

groovergirl · 27/10/2020 05:14

Your hair is beautiful, and quite Parisian -- a little bit Jane Birkin, a little bit Francoise Hardy, a whole lot of Juliette Greco.
You are so lucky to have your natural colour, too. (I was totally grey by 47 and I have to touch up the roots every two weeks. Grrr!) If you think it's a bit limp, maybe get a good blunt-cut trim to put the bounce back in. Then experiment with various up-dos. You appear to have good bone structure as well as all those fabulous tresses.

I have to say I like your existing colour. It's a nice warm shade, not dull at all - and your hair also looks in good condition in that pic. If I was going to change anything about it I would probably have highlights in a toffee-ey colour similar to how the top part of your hair looks in the picture, where the light is catching it, but I would really not be unhappy with it just as it is.

Blondiney · 27/10/2020 10:13

Dream hair.

CleverCatty · 27/10/2020 10:18

Your hair looks great - maybe balyage or low lights.

Having said that, in my late 20's to 30s I highlighted my hair to death - and over summer (after lockdown) got a bleach nightmare at a well known chain - the stylist/colourist was new.

Eventually after going to two other salons it's now a mid/dark brown - my natural hair colour is mouse/dark blonde anyway. I love my darker colour - at 49 it's taken years off me - I look 30ish at least...

Audreyseyebrows · 27/10/2020 18:42

You’ve got stunning hair! Style and colour.

Would you consider a caramel or copper balayage?
For thickness, roots from lush is a great treatment and big hair is also good.

Deathraystare · 29/10/2020 17:46

Nothing wrong with brown hair (bristling). Mine is probably 100% grey now (if I allowed it to be) but it is dark golden brown at the moment and I love it!! Gorgeous warm brown.

Notarealmum · 30/10/2020 08:05

I came on this thread for tips, thinking because you said ‘dull’ and ‘brown’ your hair might be like mine..... it’s not, it’s a lovely shade - don’t dare lighten it!
