Gold eternity ring

I asked DH to buy me the Monica Vinader gold skinny eternity ring for my birthday. It looks so pretty on the website and has great reviews. When it arrived i was so disappointed with it. It doesn't look as sparkly as it does in the pictures and feels a bit stabby and uncomfortable on. Can anyone suggest alternatives for a similar price?

£275 for gold plated silver with teeny tiny diamonds?

Sorry, not much help, but maybe you would do better going to a shop where you can try on?

Zeldaaa · 21/10/2020 19:09

You might find a half eternity more comfortable.
Example www.77diamonds.com/eternity-rings/claw-set?item=409&metal=1

(I realise this is more than you specified- just showing example)

I know! I feel a bit silly now. Not so easy to get to shops but i guess i'll have to find some free time.

It looks lovely it the pictures- but yes I can see how it might be 'stabby' - no recommendations I'm afraid, tricky at the moment unless you want to order and return lots of stuff!

FreiasBathtub · 21/10/2020 19:59

Would you consider lab grown or simulated diamonds? Lab grown are a bit pricier but there are some lovely rings at Lark and Berry and at Sacet. Simulated are cheaper, some very pretty ones at Brilliant Inc. I also like Carat London but they are mostly white gold or silver.

I too am shocked at the price for gold plated silver
I always buy antique - for that price could get something I’m sure

I have one very similar to this paid about £300 for

Go to the jewellery quarter in Birmingham, explain to someone your budget and what you want. You get SO much more for your money and they are able to advise on stones e.g. what will give the most sparkle.

My ring cost 2/3 of the high street price and 1/2 the insurance value from one of the places there.

SweetAlmondOil · 22/10/2020 17:21

Tiny diamonds are cheap so you can go for the whitest colour in stock and it won't cost much more than greyer stones. Any decent (independent) jeweller will be happy to source one for you. I wouldn't have it made because the labour would eat up your whole budget. You can also look at vintage as you get much MUCH more for your money.

Whatsthekey · 22/10/2020 18:15

I live in the South east so where would i look for vintage?

Brighton Lanes have many jewellers selling second hand/vintage. Check out your local auction houses for jewellery sales.

fallfallfall · 22/10/2020 18:32

my full eternity ring has lost stones...3 times. and the bottom section is at risk of more damage and catching on clothing treads.
for practicality purposes and full time wear. i'm looking at half eternity or at least a stoneless section on the bottom.
it's a lovely dainty look.

This jeweller will make to your spec with moissanite stones - very sparkly and ethical.
